Mr. Filippelli was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Des Moines 54 years ago. He was a warehouse supervisor with Acri Wholesale Grocery Co. until retiring in 1990. Survivors include his wife, Clarene; five sons, Frank of Coralville, Dominic, Mario and Paul, all of Des Moines, and Joseph of Tampa, two daughters, Theresa Broussard of Des Moines and Anna Purdum of Los Angeles; two sisters, Amelia Giudic-essi and Rosa Comito, both of Des Moines; and 10 grandchildren.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Elks Lodge and Red Friar's Dance Club, both in Ames. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Beth Kiner of Ames; a sister, Helen Rose of Atlantic; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Friends may call prior to services Friday at the church.
