Former Tech President Due Alumni Award From H-SU JDr. D. Wiggins of Lubbock, former president of Texas Tech University, has been named recipient of Hardin-Simmons i i Distinguished Alumni Award to be presented Oct. 22. His selection'along with that of Dr.

Warrcfi C. Hultgren, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Tulsa, was announced today by Byron Bryant, assistant to the president for university relations and alumni affairs. Two Being Aivunlcd Two Distinguished Alumni Awards sponsored by the H-SU Alumni Association are being made this year, Bryant said. This is the second year for H-SU to make such awards. Three were given in 1870.

The awards are made to individuals whoso persona! and professional are exemplary of the ideals and alms of H-SU, Wiggins will be presented an engraved plaque at ceremonies scheduled at 10 a. m. Oct. 22 in Behrens Chapel, He and Dr. Hultgren and guest'will he honored at a noon luncheon.

In 192G he went to Hardin-Sim mons as a professor and dean of students, and in 1935 was named president of Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy (now the University of Texas at El Paso). He held that position until heing named president of Texas Tech in 1948. He left Texas Tech in 1952 to become associated with the Lubbock bank and was president of the bank in 19GO-01 and became chairman of the board in 1962.

He lias been a member of the H-SU board of trustees many years and is concluding a three year term this fall. Odessa Students Attend Meeting ODESSA (Special) A group of Odessa College drama students will travel to Uie Texas Speech Association Convention this weekend in Houston to perform a special play. The eight students will present "Clem Maverick," the story of the life and death of a country- western singer. The show was directed by Ramona Peebles, director of forensics at OC. who will accompany the students. Miss Peebles is chairman of the college committee of the Texas Speech Association.

The convention is expected to draw several hundred high school and college speech teachers throughout the state. Making the trip from OC will be Frank Sharp, Teri Thacker. Judge Approves Venue Change BIG SPRING (Special) A change of venue was granted Friday in the murder trial ot Benjamin Tisdale, 46, accused of the slaying last December of Glasscock County rancher Steve Carrie.

Judge Ralph Caton in 118th District Court here said the trial would be transferred to the 51st District Court at San Angelo. No date was set. Tisdale is one of four persons charged in the robbery-slaying. Orville Davis, 50, of Casper, found guiity Oct. 2 in the same slaying during a wceklong trial in 142nd District Court in Midland.
