The group awarded more than $63,500 last year. than $450,000. Other businesses making large contributions include long-time supporter Hy-Vee, which raised more than $856,000 throughout the Midwest; Allied Insurance, $230,000 and Principal Financial Group, $83,000. Choir announces award recipients Barbara Sletto, founder and artistic director of Heartland Youth Choir, and the choir's board of directors announced the recipients of the organization's first annual Partners in Artistry Awards to recognize volunteers who regularly exhibit unselfish generosity of their time, talents and expertise, or to organizations providing support and resources.

Recipients are Faith Lutheran Church of Clive, Jim and Renee Jansen of West Des Moines, and Jon and Jane Gallentine of Conrad. "The generosity and support the choir has received from Faith Lutheran Church and the Jansen and Gallentine families has been overwhelming," Sletto said. The Rev. Dave Nerdig and the congregation of Faith Lutheran Church provided Heartland Youth Choir with office and rehearsal space. The church also invited the choir to perform in two fine arts series events.

Jim and Renee Jansen were instrumental in the development of Heartland Youth Choir, providing business expertise, personal financial support and a wealth of experience to set up the choir office. Jon and Jane Gallentine provided much-needed advice and a "can-do" attitude, doing whatever was asked. They also provided personal financial support to purchase necessary items to ensure the success of choir operations. Goodwill Golf Classic scheduled for June 7 The fourth annual Raymond James Associates Goodwill Golf Classic will tee off at 1 p.m. June 7.

The best shot charity tournament will be held at Copper Creek Golf Course in Pleasant Hill, with all proceeds benefitting Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa. Golfers are invited to attend a cookout following the tournament at 6 p.m. with awards, fun and lots of food. Goodwill Industries helps people with disabilities or other barriers to employment by providing work opportunities and skill development to achieve self-sufficiency. Raymond James Financial is a diversified financial services holding company.

WDM mall gives to violence center Valley West Mall presented a check for $1 ,441 .55. from money collected in the Center Court water feature to the Children and Families of Iowa Family Violence Center.

"Valley West Mall is happy to be able to provide a beautiful feature for our customers and at the same time help our community by funding this very important cause," said Trisha Barton, Valley West Mall marketing director. In August 2003, Valley West Mall renovated and added the waterfall and elevator. All money given by Valley West Mall customers are donated directly to the Family Violence Center, which provides shelter, counseling and supportive services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Golf tourney benefits Leukemia research Friends Drive for Leukemia, a shotgun start golf tournament, will be held at 1 p.m. June 2 at Willow Creek Golf Course, 140 Army Post Road in West Des Moines.

Golfers may register for $100; sponsorships are also available. Proceeds will benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Iowa, which raises money to support research into a treatment and a cure for leukemia. Golf registrations will be accepted through May 31. Since 1998, 74 scholarships for $1 ,000 have been awarded. 4 Villines honored for service to disabled Evelyne Jobe Villines of Des Moines was honored for her lifetime of service and dedication to the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program and pdople with disabilities. The Jayits-Wagner-O'Day Program provides employment opportunities for nearly 40,000 Americans who are blind or have other severe disabilities. Villines, who served for 20 years on the National Industries for the Blind board of directors as a founding member, was the guest of honor at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the naming of the "Evelyne Jobe Villines Training Center" housed at 1 Hi SJSwanis rM SPECIAL TO THE REGISTER those who have made an incredible gift to medicine by donating their bodies to science," said Donald Matz, chairman of the university's anatomy department and director of the body donor program.

When a body is donated to Des Moines University's Body Donor Program, the university pays a portion of the transportation costs within Iowa and provides the memorial service and interment. Of those being honored at this year's service, 61 are being returned to family members for private burial and 17 are being interred at Merle Hay Mausoleum. Central lowans break JDRF support record The Greater Iowa Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation broke another record by raising $1.9 million at the 2004 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Last year's walk raised $1.6 million.

The Greater Iowa Chapter, one of the top chapters in the nation, consistently raises more money per capita for diabetes than any other chapter; this year's walk on March 6 raised more than any other walk site in the country. The Pella Corporation raised more the National Industries for the Blind's headquarters in Vienna, Va. Villines was elected to the National Industries for the Blind board in 1974. She served from 1994 to 2003 on the Committee for Purchase from People Who are Blind or Severely Disabled, which administers National Industries for the Blind and the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program. Villines also was honored by the National Industries for the Blind in 1995, when it created the "Evelyne Villines Award for Excellence in the Workplace." In recognition of Villines' commitment and dedication to the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program and people with severe disabilities, the National Industries for the Blind presents the award each year to an individual with a disability who exhibits exceptional character and outstanding achievement and has successfully graduated to other employment following work in the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program.

Fore the Girls Golf at Willow Creek The Girl Scouts of Moingona Council will hold the 10th annual Fore the Girls Golf Spectacular June 28 at Willow Creek Golf Course, 140 Army Post Road in West Des Moines. Proceeds help support the Girl Scout program in central and southern Iowa. The fun-filled day of golf includes a shotgun start, silent auction, door prizes and a pig roast reception.
