He was a member of Painters Local 246 and Runnells American Legion. He was a World War Navy veteran. Survivors include a daughter, Carole of Marshalltown; three sons, James H. of Kansas City, Jess of Omaha and Edward A. of Creston; a brother, Everett of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
