OCTOBER 2, 1983 THE DES MOINES SUNDAY REGISTER 5P 07j HONE catalyst for a nifty mew look people do you know with beds in their living rooms?" She credits her carpenters with creating the right look. To add to the look, a pine wall was added elsewhere in the living room. Kathy explains that the carpenters routed both sides of the pine boards. Also, walls were painted black where the pine wall would be, so that white walls wouldn't show through in case the boards contracted. Flat nails added to the country look. To get the mellow look, a long proqess of sealing, varnishing and sanding many times took place. On the big floor-length double window in the living room, an unusual window treatment a stylized barn door further carries out the country theme. Complete with a latch and hinges, it keeps out strong west sun and will act as a good insulator this winter. Pheasant prints on the walls and a hanging wall quilt featuring ducks carries out the look, as do baskets of pine cones, crocks and decoys. By adding the architectural interest, the Wagoners have not had to buy new furniture or accessories. The pieces they already owned fit nicely into the new environment A conversation pit lined with brick flanks an open fireplace in one corner. Corded cushions and toss pillows in a blue and beige print make the cozy corner inviting. Bracketed shelving has been added through the house for accessories. In the bedrooms of three young daughters, these shelves keep dolls and other collectibles in order. The Wagoners' entryway sets the mood for their country home. Brick floor and walls form an interesting backdrop for a small church pew with blue and white plump pillows and a cutout "welcome" heart that does just that The girls, Kristin, Stacey and Allison, enjoy the fact that the house opens onto the back of a nearby country club's golf course. So does Dennis, a partner in the accounting firm of McGladrey Hendrickson and Co. For Kathy, it just adds to the country feel of her new environment.
