ROBIN EVANS Venice, California Robin Evans, 51, an Iowa high school track hall of fame inductee, died Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2006, at her home after a two-year battle with bile duct cancer. A private memorial ceremony will be held in California.

Anthony Hospital in Carroll and attended Carroll Community Schools until her sophomore year, then transferred to Manilla High School. Her love of athletics led her there, where she was invited to stay with the Dr. John and Shirley Hennessey family in order to participate in girls' athletic programs, as Carroll schools did not have girl's programs at that time. She was instrumental in expediting girls' sports programs in Iowa, especially in track and field. She was known for her distance running, twice a cross-country state champion, and track and field, where she pushed for a mile run when girls were limited to an 880-yard event.

She still holds numerous records and was one of the first high school girls to break the five-minute mile. She recorded one of the fastest relay split times in the half-mile. Robin was rated in the top 10 of women's milers for three years (1970-72), and was inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Track Hall of Fame and the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Hall of Fame. She also led Manilla High School to the state basketball tournament in 1972. She attended Iowa State University, where she participated in basketball and track and field before transferring to the University of Iowa.

After receiving an MBA from the University of Iowa, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she had a successful sales and management career with Pacific Bell and later with Signetics semiconductors, now Philips, where she worked for over 20 years. Due to her illness, she retired from Philips in 2004. She and spouse, Michael Marks, enjoyed traveling the world, investing in real estate, sailing and exploring the California coast with their two dogs. Survivors include her parents, Bill and Lois Evans, of Phoenix, AZ, former longtime residents of Carroll; her companion of 26 years, Michael Marks; sisters, Kristee McGuirl and her husband, Jim, of Batavia, NY, Julee Evans-Hodgson, Holly Evans of Minneapolis, MN, and Beth Halpern and her husband, Dave, of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces and nephews; two dogs, Barney and Betty; and many friends and colleagues in California. ETTA KOSBAU Marshalltown Etta Kosbau, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2006.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Marshalltown Evangelical Free Church. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service. CECIL BRIM Grinnell Cecil Brim, 94, of Grinnell, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.

LIONEL A. POTTS, JR. Des Moines Lionel A. Potts, 72, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 after a long courageous battle with leukemia. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m.

Fri- day, April 7, 2006 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with interment following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Lionel was born August 9, 1933 to Lionel and Lena Potts in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from North High School and then from Drake University.

At Drake, he was a letter-winner on the baseball team for three years. Lionel spent two years in the US Navy, where he earned a commendation of valor and bravery in the at sea rescue of typhoon victims in 1956. During his service, he traveled to Asia and climbed to the top of Mt. Fuji. After his service, he returned to his employment at Banker's Life, where he obtained Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries.

At Banker's Life, he met Diane Derham, who he married on September 24, 1960. Together they enjoyed many years of family and travel and were fortunate to have four children. Lionel enjoyed many things with his family including many family vacations, camping, fishing, coaching his children's teams, and teaching them his love of sports and of the outdoors. He was active in his children's many activities including Beaverdale Little League and Salvation Army basketball. He continued all his life to be active and ran his first 5K at age 55.

Lionel was employed at Principal Financial (formerly Banker's Life) in Des Moines for 30 years, and later retired from Mutual Trust Life Ins. Company in Oakbrook, IL. He retired back to his home in Des Moines with his wife and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Lionel is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Russell (Becky) Potts of Pleasant Hill, Julie Potts (Jeff French) of Bellevue, WA, Linda (John) Durman of Waukee and Brian (Kathleen) Potts of Coralville, IA; and nine grandchildren, Benjamin, Meredith and Natalie Potts, all of Pleasant Hill; George, Lillie, Sophie and Tess French of Bellevue, WA; and Melissa and Jack Durman of Waukee. He was preceded in death by his father, Lionel Potts, his mother, Lena Potts; and his brother, H.

Ronald Potts. Memorial contributions may be given in Lionel's memory to the Drake University Club. RUTH G. KIMBALL Des Moines Memorial services for Mrs. Ruth Kimball, 91, who died March 15, 2006, will be 10 a.m.

Pettit 79, was called home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 4, 2006.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrating her life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 Orchard Hills Drive, in Norwalk, where she was a lifelong member. Burial will follow at the Norwalk Cemetery. Alice was born on December 9, 1926 in Carroll, Iowa, to Margaret and Frank Fitzsenry.

She grew up in Breda, Iowa, graduating from St. Bernard's High School. Later, she moved to Des Moines and met her husband, Charles Pettit, and was married on May 5, 1951. Alice and Charles moved to Norwalk and made their home. She was a devoted loving mother to their seven children, Charlotte Pettit of Des Moines, Mary Pettit (Dave Scott) Palatine, Illinois, Charles "Mike" Pettit (Shelley) of Norwalk, Julia Pettit of Pomoroy, Claudia Pettit of Des Moines, Brian Pettit (Candy) of Norwalk and Paula Nerhus (Scott) of Badger.

Alice was a grandmother to 24 grandchildren, one great-grandson; and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Alice is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Hooks of Phoenix, Arizona and Ruth Woodward of Des Moines. Preceding her in death was her husband, Charles; parents, Margaret and Frank Fitzsenry; sisters, Mary Jane Fitzsenry and Rita Steffes; and brothers, Joseph and Francis Fitzsenry. Alice was devoted to her Lord and enjoyed his gifts of sewing, quilting, reading and walking. Alice was member of the St.

John's Alter Rosary Society. Visitation for Alice will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2006 at St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk, where the family will greet friends and family. At 7:30 p.m., a vigil rosary service will begin.

He is survived by his wife, Tina; daughter, Brandi; parents, Ralph and Patricia Karns, all of Des Moines; brothers, Richard of Carlisle and Charles, Russell, Terry and Scott, all of Des Moines; sister, Linda (Neil) Frizzell of Slayton, MN; and grandmother, Lorene Madden of Des Moines. MORRISON Carroll Helen Morrison, 95, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006. She was born May 24, 1910 at State Center, Iowa. She graduated from State Center High School in 1927 and the University of Iowa in 1931, with a B.A. degree in mathematics and French. On July 14, 1934, she married Dr.

Phillipps Lohr. They made their home in Churdan. Dr. Lohr died in 1965. She married Dr.

Roland Morrison on February 10, 1973. They made their home in Carroll. Dr. Morrison died in 1988. Mrs.

Morrison taught at Stanton High School from 1931 to 1934 and Paton-Churdan High School from 1966 to 1973. In Churdan, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Churdan Library Board and Eastern Star. In Carroll, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Friends of the Library, Round Table, P.E.O., and CLIO Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, quilting, reading, writing, traveling, playing golf, hiking and walleye fishing. Survivors include her son, David C.

Lohr and his wife Christine of Tokyo, Japan; daughter, Priscilla M. Meeks and her husband James of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Mary Morrison of LeClaire, Iowa; one step-granddaughter; and a sister, Illdra Koett of Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 1, 2006. The Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll was in charge of funeral arrangements. EVELYN D.

FITZGERALD Des Moines Evelyn D. Fitzgerald died April 4, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Evelyn was born September 15, 1914 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Arthur and Esther O'Connor. She was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Dodge. Evelyn married David E.

Fitzgerald of Fort Dodge and the couple moved to Sac City. She served as Director of Nursing at Loring Hospital, later Administrator of Park View Manor Care Facility. In 1971 she moved to Des Moines and worked for the State of Iowa Inspections and Appeals Division until her retirement in 1979. Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her three daughters, Martha Fitzgerald, Mary Wright, and Monica Fitzgerald of Urbandale; her daughter-in-law, Lora Hackman Fitzgerald of Kansas City; two grandchildren, Garrett of Berkley, California and Hope, of Austin, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Molly.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, David and two sons, Patrick and Marc Fitzgerald, two brothers, Bert and Frank O'Connor and her sister, Joan Constantine. Her body has been cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial is planned for a later date at St. Pius Catholic Church, Urbandale. Pence Reese Newton, 641-792-5125 MARVIN LEE DAVIS Ames Marvin Lee Davis, 77, died April 4, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2006 at 10:30 a.m.

at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Inurnment will follow at Story Memorial Gardens in Ames. Marvin was born to Marshall Lee and Gertrude Mae (Foster) Davis on July 25, 1928 in Ames. He graduated from Ames High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948.

He was a lifelong Ames resident. Marvin retired in 1990, after twenty years as manager of the Ames City Employees Credit Union. He was a member of Moose Lodge 520 and American Legion Post 37, both of Ames. Marvin is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Denny) Christianson of Ames and Sheryl Davis of Ames; sons, Mark (Kelly) Davis of Minneapolis and Brian Davis of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Carrie, Michael, Andrew, Emma and Chelsea; sisters, Marlene (John) Malloy of Troy, Michigan and Ruth Davis of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ames Boys and Girls Club. SHILO A. TOWNSEND Tempe, Arizona Shilo A. Townsend of Tempe, Arizona, died peacefully at her home of natural causes on Sunday, April 2, 2006. Prior to moving to Arizona several years ago, Shilo had been a resident of the Des Moines area all of her life.

In her early years, Shilo was a nurse and enjoyed using those skills to help others all of her life. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Cox-Townsend (Dennis) of Rochester, MN, Carol Lawson of Chandler, AZ, and Debra Townsend Lind (David) of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren; and her brother, Schuyler Hales of Carmel, IN. Her parents, Dorothy and Harvey Hales preceded her in death. An informal memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 7, 2006 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, where family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
