Moore, 55, was born on December 3, 1948 to Chester and Elizabeth Bancroft Moore in Glendon, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at his home in Guthrie Center. Charles grew up on the family farm and moved into Menlo in 1962.

He graduated from Menlo High School in 1966 and in 1967, he attended mechanic school in Omaha, Nebraska. Charles entered the United States Navy in 1968 and served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy in 1993. Charles married Kathy Reem on March 17, 1973 at the Menlo United Methodist Church. He worked for Principal Financial in Des Moines until he became ill.

Charles enjoyed working in the yard and on his house. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, his computer, playing cards and listening to old time country western music. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Guthrie Center; sons, Robert (Tiffany) Moore of Englewood, CO, and Chester Moore of Guthrie Center; daughter, Kim Reem of Des Moines; grandchildren, Kevin, Joanna, David and Justin; brother, Raymond (Sue) Moore of Urbandale; and sisters, Joyce (Clifford) Welker of Menlo, Lucille (Harvey) Berry of Des Moines, Charlotte (Bill) Holle of Guthrie Center, Pauline (Lee) Drews of Belvidere, IL, and Amy Moore of Ida Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.

Saturday, October 30 at Community Bible Church in Guthrie Center, with Rev. Dean Porter officiating. Burial will be at Highland Township Cemetery in rural Bayard, with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beidelman-Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center.

Memorials may be left to Hospice of Central lowa. KRISSIE KINGSLEY WATTS Jefferson Krissie Kingsley Watts, 100, died October 26, 2004 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. A private time of prayer was held at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha, NE. Krissie Araminta Kingsley Watts was born March 30, 1904 in Omaha, NE to Welch and Mabel (Hume) Kingsley.

Krissie graduated from high school in Norfolk, NE and later from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in home economics and did graduate study at Iowa State University. After graduation, she managed a coffee shop for the Roberts Hotel System, conducted cooking schools for Westinghouse and managed her father's hotel in Seward, NE. For many years, she was a home economist for lowa Electric, holding cooking schools in their various divisions. On August 1, 1934, Krissie was united in marriage to C. Everett Watts in Seward, NE.

The couple came to Jefferson in 1938 for Everett's employment and she has since resided there. Until her health no longer permitted, Krissie enjoyed traveling extensively around the country and abroad. Krissie was 3 a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and two honorary home economic societies. She had been president of the lowa Federation of Republican Women from 1949 to 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard; and her husband who died in 1966.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 30 at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday and family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Homer was born January 4, 1914 in Murray, lowa, to parents Guy Landis Burgus and Mayme Viola Anderson Burgus.

He married Jean Myers on September 7, 1941, and left the following year to serve in the U.S. Army during World War in North Africa and Italy. After completing military service, he worked for the U.S. Post Office before moving his family to rural Adel, where he farmed until retirement. He and wife Jean moved to Perry in 1993, where he lived until his death.

Homer was an active member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, where he served in several leadership capacities throughout the years. He is survived by his wife, Jean and three children: son, Dan (Judy) Burgus of Adel: daughter, Shari Burgus of Waukee; and son, Jerry (Brenda) Burgus of Hawaii. Also surviving are grandchildren, Anndrea (Toby) Golightly of Chicago, IL, Ryan (Jess Pettis) Burgus of Minneapolis, MN, Matt (Tammy) Burgus of Yorktown Heights, NY; and Tate (Michelle) Golightly of West Des Moines, along with great-grandchildren, Kirsten Bond, Bryelle Burgus, Haley Pettis, Sidney Pettis and Elizabeth Jayne. MEREDITH (McELHINNEY) DeGOOD Des Moines Meredith Jane DeGood, 75, died October 26, 2004 of a respiratory ailment at the Chautauqua Home in Charles City, where she had resided since July.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 30 at Windsor Presbyterian Church, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Meredith was born in Morning Sun, lowa and had lived in Des Moines for the last 27 years. She was a former school teacher, the retired owner of The Baggage Car and a member of Windsor Presbyterian Church. As a noted expert on Hallmark Collectibles, Meredith was the author and publisher of "Price Guide to Hallmark Ornaments." She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Hal DeGood; two daughters, Martha (David) Nelson of Novi, MI, and Nancy (Peter) Canning of Overland Park, KS; brothers, Paul McElhinney of Morning Sun and Robert McElhinney of Morrison, IL; and four grandchildren, Amanda and Stephen Nelson and Erin and Mallory Canning.

BENEFIEL-PIERCE Des Moines Nancy I L. BenefielPierce, 60, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Intrust Hospice Taylor House. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 30 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Nancy was an employee of CDS for 28 years. She liked singing country music and collecting stuffed animals. WOLFF Des Moines Wesley Julius Wolff, 83, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 30 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.

Private Committal services and entombment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines. Wesley was born the son of Carl and Lela Haller Wolff on March 12, 1921 in Charles City, lowa. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany and France. On August 17, 1956, Wesley married Gladys M. Versteegh in Oskaloosa, lowa.

They made their home in Des Moines. Wesley was formerly employed by the Internal Revenue Services as an agent, for nearly 40 years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, and the Mr. Mrs. Club.

Wesley was a volunteer at the lowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for many years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gladys Wolff of Des Moines. Wesley was preceded in death by a brother at infancy. Visitation will be held after 2 p.m.

He was born on January 24, 1922 to Charles and Johanna (Den Adel) Hoeksema.

Joe was raised in Pella and lived there until he served in the United States Army Combat Engineer Battalion from 1942 to 1946. He graduated from lowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joe lived in Des Moines and worked as a Design Engineer John Deere Des Moines Works, until his retirement in 1982. Joe is survived by his wife, Betty; sisters, Margaret and Anna Mae, both of Pella; stepdaughters, Linda (Wayne) Hodges of Lakeville, Michigan, and Judy (Bob) Richman of Shelby, Montana; stepson, Bret Beavans of Columbus, Montana; one niece; two nephews; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m.

BOYLAN Des Moines Richard, 86, passed away October 27, 2004 at Kavanagh House in West Des Moines. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 30 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Burial of the ashes will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Grand River Cemetery.

Richard was born August 1, 1918 in Lucas County to Henry and Effie (Kirk) Boylan. He was a WWII veteran in the Army Air Corps and worked as a fender repairman. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Jill Coons (Joe) of Des Moines and Debra Boylan Bondurant; one son, Timothy Boylan of Des Moines; two sisters, Margaret Ritchey of Ft. Dodge and Frances Morris of Chariton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

VAUGHAN lowa City Dr. Emmett J. Vaughan, 69, died unexpectedly 'October 24 while vacationing with his wife Connie in Elko, Nevada. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 1, 1934, the second oldest of 18 children. Dr.

Vaughan was known as a devoted family man, enthusiastic teacher, and nationally and internationally recognized scholar on insurance. His teaching career began when he joined the University of lowa in September 1963, where he subsequently became the Partington Professor of Insurance. He was instrumental in helping the University earn a distinguished reputation in the field of insurance education in the 1970s and 1980s. After being exposed to his enthusiasm for studying insurance, many of his students went on to careers in the industry. Dr.

Vaughan also promoted professionalism in the insurance industry by offering countless seminars in every state in the nation to those working in the insurance industry. His students remember him as an outstanding teacher one who set high standards, was entertaining, and took a personal interest in them. Dr. Vaughan was a preeminent scholar with an international reputation, writing 15 books and monographs and over 200 scholarly articles. His book "Fundamentals of Risk and Insurance" is a leading college textbook, now in its 9th edition.

His books have been used around the world, and translated into Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Serbo-Croation. In 1992, he was retained to assist in the determination of the war damages resulting from the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, payable under a United Nations Resolution. He was frequently called upon to testify in legislative and judicial hearings on matters related to insurance, including numerous occasions in which he testified before the Congress of the United States. He served as a special consultant to the U.S. Department of Labor on workers compensation and health insurance issues since 1992.

In September 1987, Dr. Vaughan was inducted into the Japanese Risk Management Society, only the second American ever so honored. He was inducted as a charter member of the lowa Insurance Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2003, Allied Insurance dedicated its new Des Moines training center, naming it the Emmett J. Vaughan Training Center.

Dr. Vaughan earned his Ph.D. in Economics and Insurance in 1963 and a MA in Economics in 1962, both from the University of Nebraska. He earned his BA in Economics from Creighton University. Dr.

Vaughan held the professional designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He was a member of the American Risk and Insurance Association, Beta Gamma Sigma, Omicron Delta Epsilon, and the Financial Executives Institute. Dr. Vaughan's service to the University of lowa included serving as associate dean for external programs for the College of Business Administration from 1979 to 1985, interim dean for the College from 1981 to 1983, and dean of the Division of Continuing Education from 1986 to 2001. Dr.

Vaughan is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Lonne K. whom he married on July 2, 1955. Dr. Vaughan's surviving children are Therese Vaughan "Terri" and husband Bob Carber of West Des Moines, Tim Vaughan a and wife Jenny of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Mary Vaughan Sarrazin and husband Ed of lowa City, Joan Vaughan Donovan and husband Brian of West Branch, Tom Vaughan and wife Vicki of West Branch, and Michael Vaughan and wife Amy of Johnston. In addition, he is survived by 23 grandchildren and 17 brothers and sisters.

A son, Emmett died in 1976. To his family, Dr. Vaughan is remembered most for his devotion to his family, his generosity to those in need, and his enthusiasm for life. He was a tireless cheerleader for his children. In spite of a demanding professional schedule, he found time for many other interests.

For over 30 years, he enjoyed spending time with his family at his summer lakeside cabin in Minnesota, first with his wife and children and then with his grandchildren. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies over the years, especially those he could share with his family. Most recently, these included regular euchre and bridge games, golfing, hunting with his brothers and sons, watching old movies, "fixing up" the cabin, gambling with his wife, visiting his children and grandchildren, and cheering on his grandsons at wrestling tournaments (after many years of cheering for his sons). His family fondly remembers his annual Easter Egg dying party for all of the grandchildren, his attention to Christmas traditions, and the care he put into planning the Vaughan Brothers Deer Hunt, an annual event since 1988. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m.

Saturday, October 30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City, with The Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lensing Funeral Cremation Service in lowa City, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

The daughter of Sanders and Ila Meredith Van Willigen, she was born June 24, 1925 in Taintor, lowa. She was raised in the Malcom area and graduated valedictorian in 1942 from Malcom High School. She later graduated from A.I.B.

in Des Moines. She was married to Bruce K. Hodgson on June 26, 1948 in Bennington, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Des Moines and she was employed as a bookkeeper for several area businesses' including Des Moines Railway, Wheeler Lumber Company and Automotive Service. She retired in 1982 and moved to Grinnell in 1990.

She moved to the Dallas area in 1998 to be near her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and solving word puzzles. Over the years she managed to collect over 400 cups and saucers of which she held great pride in. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janice Kay and Ronald Van Wyk and two grandsons, Jeffrey Scott and Travis Lynn Van Wyk, all of Richardson, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce in 1994; and one brother, Carol Van Willigen.

MARY A. STEFANI Des Moines Mary A. Stefani, 98, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Luther Park Health Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 30 at Our Lady of the America's Visitation Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Mary was born May 8, 1906 in Middlesex, England. She resided in Ankeny until 1948, before moving to Des Moines where she resided until her death. She was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and also a Charter Member and first President of the Vitoria Italiana Lodge Auxiliary. Mary is survived by three sons, Nello and wife Genevieve of Altoona, Pete and wife Gloria of Des Moines and Robert of Tacoma, Washington; twelve grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; her parents, Oliva and Domenico Giannasi; four brothers, Louis, Charles, William and Nello; two sisters, Cesira and Inez; two daughters-in-law, Patricia and Marie; and her grandson, Stephen Craig Stefani.
