She worked as a secretary for the Iowa Association of School Boards, Master Builders of Iowa and the State Representatives of Iowa. She was a Charter and active member of Chapter MA, P.E.O. and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was preceded in death by her first husband, R. Wayne Liljegren and an infant daughter, Nancy.

Survivors Include her husband, Robert L. Skinner; brothers, Paul Menefee of Oroville, CA, and Dr. Gerry Menefee of West Covina, CA; her two children and families, Linda Morshe-imer of Amherst, NH, and Ron Liljegren of Lexington, SC; Robert's two children and families, Ned Skinner of Johnston and LeeAnn Comegys of Newark, DE; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 6 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, on Beaver at Franklin in Des Moines, of which she was a member.

ELIZABETH "BETTY" MCKASSON Tucson, AZ Betty McKasson was V. born Elizabetn Ann Bol-J ton in Springfield llli-" t' nois, first child of Alice I Lindner Bolton and fe Lewis Mellet Bolton and died on December 25, 2003 in Tucson, AZ.

She had a wonderful childhood in Des Moines Iowa. She first came to Tucson, AZ as a music major at the University of Arizona in 1936. In 1943 she married the love of her life, O.D. "Mac" McKasson. Less than two years after the birth of their fourth child, Mac died.

While raising her children, Betty directed a choral group, sang in a magnificent choir and was active in community groups, including the Des Moines symphony guild and the Junior League. For the sake of her oldest son, she moved the family to Tucson in 1958. Her life there had been abundant. Though always centered on family, she had many friends and was dedicated to increasing opportunities for women and girls in this community and around the world. She is survived by her children, Michael Lewis McKasson (Sally), Molly Elizabeth McKasson(Richard Morgan), Steven Daniel McKasson (Treva) and Sarah Jane McKasson (Mark Cowburn) and by nine grandchildren.

She Is survived as well by her beloved brother and sister, Robert Lewis Bolton and June Alison McMillen. Donations in her name can be made to Planned Parenthood of Southern Arizona or the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona. PATIRICA A. JONES Des Moines Arden Lenly Baker, 89, passed away January 4, 31 Israel family tViV. I Hospice House in Ames, succumDing to an illness with cancer.

Arden was born the son of Jasper Lee and Bertha Miller Baker in Lucas, Iowa on tmSk. January 26, 1914. He attended Derby School in Derby, Iowa. For many years he was a farmer and truck driver in Union, Clark and Madison counties. In 1953-54 he worked in Greenland on the Thule Air Base.

Throughout his life, he was an automobile dealer and salesman, loving Chrysler product vehicles. Arden retired in 1980, spending his winters in Arizona. Arden is preceded in death by Evelyn Berry Baker, whom he married on May 18, 1939; his mother and father; sister, Opal Fletcher; and infant siblings. Arden will also rejoin many lifelong friends who preceded him. Survivors Include his daughters, Glenna Baker Munson and son-in-law Paul of Urbandale and Donna Baker Sloan of Ogden; son, Dale Baker and daughter-in-law Nancy of Boone; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Nova Giles of Tingley, Leah Wallace of Winter-set, Gertrude Benedict of New Virginia and Irma Lee Newton of Ogden; many nieces and nephews; and his friend and companion, Doris Baker of Afton.

Arden's life was spent enjoying family, friends, cars, motorcycles and 86 years attendance of the Iowa State Fair including camping over 30 years with his family. He was well-known and enjoyed breaking and training horses, coaching Golden Gloves boxing contenders and daredevil motorcycle riding. In recent years he was a fun presence at senior citizen meal sites, traveling to three different counties to be a regular to see his friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carson Funeral Home in Ogden.

Services will be Thursday, January 8 at 10 a.m. at Ogden Community United Methodist Church, with burial following at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Memorials may be directed to Central Iowa Hospice and Israel Family Hospice House. Arden and his family appreciated their care and support. CLARK Prairie City Virginia A. Clark, 76, died Saturday, January 3, 2003 at U.S.A. Healthcare In Newton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7 at 10 a.m. at the Prairie City Christian Church.

Memorials may be given to the Virginia A. Clark Memorial Fund. Virginia Arlene Clark was born on July 14, 1927 In Colfax. The daughter of George and Leona (Bigney) Naisbitt, Virginia graduated from Colfax High School in 1945. She was a member of the Prairie City Christian Church as well as the Excelsior Rebekah Lodge 470 and V.C.-8 Club.

On June 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Dale Clark in Newton. Virginia is survived by a son, Kenneth Doug Clark and his wife Suzi of Waverly; a daughter, Debra Jones and her husband Jeff of Prairie City; three granddaughters, Danielle of West Des Moines and Desiree and Erica, both of Prairie City; and a brother, Bob Naisbitt of Colfax. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, William Naisbitt. MICHAEL JAMES MCELROY Des Moines Michael McElroy, 59, died January 3, 2004. The body has been cremated and no services are planned.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Bales and two grandchildren, Samantha and Jessica. Arrangements by Hamilton's Funeral Home. Dale A. Steiger succumbed to lung cancer and complications of Parkinson's disease on January 1,2004. He was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on May 14, 1928 to Walter and Doris (Howe) Steiger and Is survived by daughters, Christine (Anthony) Falco of Harrison, New York, and Marta Steiger of Bronxville, New York; and a brother, Jacob Steiger of Black River Falls, Wisconsin.

Dale moved to Des Moines from Rye, New York in 1997 and was a member of Meredith Drive reformed Church. He was beloved and appreciated by many church friends. Dale was a graduate of Central High School in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, The Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, Wisconsin State University of LaCrosse and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and lona College in New Rochelle, New York. In 1971 he was engaged by The Curtis Publishing Company of Indianapolis to help republish Saturday Evening Post. He was employed for a few years by the Trane Company in LaCrosse and became a long term executive with LOOK Magazine in Des Moines, Iowa, becoming Executive Vice President for a number of LOOK subsidiaries.

In 1972 he opened Dale Steiger Associates, a consulting company which he operated In New York until his death. During that period of time, he owned and operated one consumer and one trade publication for a number of years, later selling those publications to other owners. He created and initiated a subscription subsidiary in Des Moines, Iowa titled SUBCO, operating it for the ensuing years with a long time friend and business associate, Judy LeWarne, which continues in operation today. He received a number of recognitions and awards throughout the years, including the Lee C. Williams award, for outstanding achievement In the publishing periodical field.

He served In several boards including Central Registry of the United States and Canada. He was the only publishing executive to testify before the United States Senate Committee on subscription sales practices and served as an expert witness in Federal Court on the same subject at different times. He was also founding member of the Art Directors Association of Iowa and later its President. Dale was also a member of the Cornell Club of New York, Westchester Country Club of New York and the Des MoinesEmbassy Club. He was proud to have served with the United States 1st Cavalry Division in occupied Japan for a year.

He was also honored by his election to "Who's Who In America" and "Who's Who In The World." Keith married Marguerite Broherd on September 1, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The song "The Church in the Wildwood" was very special to him. Keith worked for Iowa Power and Light Co. for 37 years, retiring in October 1985. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, Campers on Missions Club, Young at Heart Club and IBEW Local 499.

He loved to travel and was happy to say he had been in all 50 states. He liked to camp and go to gospel and blue grass shows. KATEUNVERFERTH Johnston Kate Unverferth, 85, a resident of Bishop Drum Care Center in Johnston for the past several months, was reborn into her everlasting life at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2004. She and her surviving spouse of 50 years, Joe were former residents of Per-ryville, MO. Prior to that time they had many years of enjoyment through RV travel.

Kate's primary residence was Rus-sellville, AR, where she and her husband were blessed with four surviving children. Jones, 79, died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital of Multiple Myeloma and congestive heart failure. Her body has been donated to the Anatomy Department of the University of Iowa. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at Simpson United Methodist Church. Pat was a Des Moines resident all of her life.

She was retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center and was a member of Simpson Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Mark (Peggy) of Middletown, VA, and Jim (Pam) of Downers Grove, IL; three sisters, Marjorie (Eldon) Schoephoerster of Sumner, IA, Margaret Coe of Des Moines and Ruth (Al) Weber of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 19 nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. JACK EDWARD BUSS Des Moines Jack Edward Buss, 74, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Mercy Capitol Hospital In Des Moines.

A Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Highland Park Funeral Home, 3500 6th Ave. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. His body has been cremated and a private burial of the ashes will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery following the services. Jack was born and lived most of his life In Des Moines.

He was a US Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Drake University. He remained very active with Drake University, the Missouri Valley Tennis Association as well as many other civic groups. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marilyn Buss and Margaret Tingwald. Jack is survived by two sisters, Donna Bergstrum (Nels) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Phyllis Lemons (Howard) of Des Moines; two brothers, Robert Buss (Molly) of West Des Moines and James Buss of Des Moines; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in Waldorf, Maryland. Alan was born in Arnold, Nebraska on January 15, 1948 and worked as a material handler at Pechiney Plastic Packaging for over 25 years.

Alan was preceded in death by his father, Duane Nichols; sister, Linda Messersmith; and grandparents, Al and Erma Nichols. He is survived by his mother, Gertrude (Mann) Nichols of Virginia; brother, David Bryce of Frederick, MD; sister, Gina (William) Simpson of Waldorf, MD; uncle, Terry (Karen) Nichols of Earlham; five nieces; two great-nephews; and two great-nieces. Newspaper announcements will be made at that time. Russell was born December 3, 1 91 5 to Ella and Frank Mishler in Maxwell, Iowa. He worked for over 40 years as a service station manager. Previous to 1986, he lived in Montezuma, Iowa. He moved to Piano, Texas in 1991.

Russell is survived by his daughter, Beverly Fitzpatrick (John) of Piano, TX; his three grandchildren, Scott Mishler (Deann) of Ankeny, Michelle McCauley (Mark) of Lewisvllle, TX, and Neal Fitzpatrick of Wichita Falls, TX; and his five great-grandchildren, David, Natalie and Nathan, all of Ankeny, Tiffany of College Station, TX, and Ryan serving in South Korea. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his son, Jerry; and a grandchild, Michael. CLAUDE VINCENT POMMER Perry Claude Vincent Pommer, son of George Henry Pommer and Flora VanPelt Pommer, was born March 7, 1914 in Ogden, Iowa and died January 1 2004 at the Rowley Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 24 days. Claude grew up in Berkly, Iowa and lived in Perry. On July 20, 1933 Claude was united in marriage to Ada Margaret Cornelison.

The couple lived in Perry where they raised their only child, David. Claude worked for for Siglin's Plumbing and Heating in Perry. Claude's hobbies included reading, golfing and cars. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Perry. Preceding Claude in death were his parents and his wife.

He is survived by his son, David and his wife Sue of Clive; two brothers, John and wife Ruth and Donald and wife Joe, all of Perry; a sister, Olive Cornelison of Perry; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. MINKS Des Moines William Elmer Minks, 74, died December 31, 2003 at Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, CA.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Funeral Home with burial following at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Minks was born December 2, 1929 in Cincinnati, IA. He lived in Des Moines for most of his life with his wife, Katherine to whom he was married 55 12 years.

He worked as a truck driver with Anderson Erickson Dairy for 29 years. He enjoyed working with wood and was very handy with fixing mechanical things. William is survived by his wife, Katherine of Des Moines; his son, William J. Minks of Burlingame, CA; his daughter, Lana Leibow of Arizona; his four grandchildren, Valerie Leibow and Joel Leibow, both of Arizona, Stephanie Minks of Ames and Katie Minks of Ankeny. Visitation will be from 6 to 8p.m.
