Mrs. Fleharty was born in New Market and had lived in Creston for 74 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Super 8 card club and Sliver Bells. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Crouse of Creston; two sons, Raymond of Creston and Rodney of Warrensburg: two brothers, Max Moore of Grant Junction, and Marvin Foley of Huntington Beach, eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Green Valley Hospice or the American Diabetes Association. FLORENCE KENNEDY Prairie City Florence M. Kennedy, 94, of Prairie City died of a heart ailment Saturday at Clearview Manor there.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, with burial at Waveland Cemetery there. Mrs. Kennedy was born in Marion County and had lived in Jasper County all her life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, music and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Dwight Prairie City; a daughter, Erma Fulmer of West Des Moines; a sister, Fern Kingery of Newton; six grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. EUGENE BAETHKE New Virginia F. Eugene Baethke, 48, of New Virginia died of cancer Sunday at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the gymnasium of Interstate 35 High School in Truro, with burial at New Virginia Cemetery in New Virginia. Mr.

Baethke was born in Sigourney and had lived in New Virginia for 26 years. He was a teacher, assistant football coach and head boys' basketball coach at Interstate 35 High School. He was a member of United Methodist Church in New Virginia, lowa State Education Association, National Coaches Association and the weight-lifting program at the school. He enjoyed attending sporting events. He is survived by his wife, Karen; two daughters, Jennifer Baethke of New Virginia and Brianna Baethke of lowa City; his parents, Phyllis and Floyd Baethke of Montezuma; and three brothers, Mark of Urbandale, Larry of Williamsburg and of Spencer.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Kavanagh House or Interstate 35 Little League. LARRY SPARKS Grinnell Larry Dean Sparks, 53, of Grinnell died of a heart ailment Friday at home. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday at Pence Funeral Home in Newton. Burial of the cremains will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Mr. Sparks was born in Des Moines and had lived in Montezuma and Newton before moving to Grinnell in 1995. He was a truck driver for a meatpacking plant and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

He enjoyed old cars, bowling and playing pool. He is survived by his wife, Judy; and a daughter, Melissa Sparks-Mather of Portland, Ore. The family will receive friends a halfhour prior to the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry Dean Sparks Memorial Fund. Sowienski, 48, of lowa City died of pneumonia Saturday at University Hospitals there. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McLaren's Funeral Chapel in West Des Moines, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Mrs. Sowienski was born in Sioux City and had lived in Des Moines since 1977 before moving to lowa City nine months ago.

She had been a public relations director for Camp Sunnyside and Des Moines General Hospital, served as vice president of the Greater Des Moines Area Chamber of Commerce, and was the organization's first female officer. She was a member of Fox Creek Community Church near Waukee. She is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Laura Sowienski of Ames and Emily Sowienski of lowa City; a son, Daniel of lowa City; a brother, Jim Cameron of Ames; and a sister, Julie King of Omaha. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sunnyside. RUTH TORKELSON Huxley Ruth Torkelson, 87, of Huxley died of a respiratory ailment Thursday at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.

Mrs. Torkelson was born in Mankato, and had lived in Ames for 38 years before moving to Huxley in 1998. She had worked as a clerk at Hach Chemical in Ames before retiring. She was a member of the women's group at her church and the Ellsworth Township Women's Farm Bureau, and was a Hamilton County 4-H leader. She is survived by her husband, Casper; a daughter, Karen Reynoldson of Plantation, a sister, Mable Woodward of Ames; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. GEORGE JONES Ames George R. Jones, 99, of Ames died of a heart ailment and pneumonia Saturday at Abbington on Grand there. Services will be at 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery there. Mr. Jones was born in Shipley and had lived in the Nevada area before moving to Slater in 1946. He had moved to Ames 12 years ago.

He was a farmer, a school bus driver for Slater and Ballard schools, and he also drove for the Slater Creamery before retiring. He was a Navy veteran. Two brothers, Dick of Slater and Jim of Des Moines, survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna. Friends may call an hour prior to the time of services Tuesday at the church.

Albright, 87, of Grundy Center died of a respiratory ailment Sunday at Grundy Care Center there. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Miss Albright had lived in Grundy Center all her life.

She had worked at the Grundy Center Register newspaper for many years as society editor and a reporter and also had worked in the advertising department. She wrote a book about Grundy Center history, was a Sunday school teacher and was active in her church. She enjoyed traveling and bowling. A sister, Marvel Diehl of Cedar Falls, survives. Wednesday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery there. Mrs. Flora had lived in Baxter all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Jasper County Farm Bureau.

She enjoyed animals and helping to organize the Baxter blood drive. She is survived by two stepsons, Dean Flora of Baxter and Dwaine Flora of Tigard, and a brother, Earl Allan of Baxter. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be held at a later date. Mr. Nelson was born in Kossuth County and had lived in Phoenix for five years before moving to Des Moines in 1965. He had worked as an assembler at Eagle Iron Works before retiring. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Charles Jr. of Lincoln, and Michael of Grinnell; two daughters, Jo Ann Shilling of 1 Ottumwa and Lori Schwartz of Lincoln, and 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Fischer was born in Boone and had lived in Madrid all her life. She had worked as computer programmer before retiring. She enjoyed reading and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Mike; a son, Patrick of Madrid; two daughters, Dana Fischer of Boone and Erin Fischer of Madrid; her parents, Shirley and Jerry Burke of Madrid; and three sisters, Cathy Inglett of Billings, Susie Green of Seattle and Trish Carlson Neff of Madrid.

MARGARET TAYLOR Windsor Heights Margaret Taylor, 77, of the 7000 block of Sunrise Boulevard in Windsor Heights died of injuries suffered in an automobile accident Saturday near Grimes. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Wednesday at Westover Funeral Home, with burial at Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River. Miss Taylor was born in Guernsey and had lived in the Des Moines area since 1952. She was a business teacher at Central Campus with the Des Moines public schools before retiring. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Des Moines Retired Teachers Association and Altrusa International. Two brothers, Floyd Taylor of Topeka, and Harold Taylor of Mason City, survive.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. MILDRED HUFFERD Adel Mildred I. Hufferd, 87, of Adel died of a heart ailment Saturday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Wednesday at Adel United Methodist Church in Adel, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Mrs. Hufferd was born in Boone and also had lived in the Glidden area before moving to Coon Rapids in 1945. She had lived in Adel since 1960.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Adel Mah-jongg Club, and she enjoyed making candles. She is survived by a daughter, Joanie Phil Olson of of Cedar Adel; two nine sons, James of Adel and and Falls; grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.
