Friday at the funeral home. Johnston Lilly Marie Broadie, 87, passed away on Monday, I 1 i 3 ueuemuei iu, Tl 2 0 0 8 at Fk ZJ Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was born in Alden, MN on September 28, 1921 to Thorvald and Laura (Hansen) Mogensen, and as a young girl she moved with her family to Des Moines. On June 11, 1949 she was united in marriage to Carroll Broadie at the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Des Moines. For many years Lilly worked at Pioneer Hi-Bred International in Johnston.

In her spare time she dearly loved to work on jigsaw puzzles, work with her flowers and do crafts. Lilly also enjoyed playing' cards on Wednesdays with her friends. First and foremost in her life was her family, she adored spending time with them. Her memory is cherished by her husband, Carroll; two daughters, Judy (Jim) Briles of Johnston and Cheryl Broadie of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Lisa (Rice) Terra-nova of Des Moines, Brian (Felicia) Moss, and Christopher (Jennifer) Briles, both of Johnston; and five great-grandchildren, Jonah and Eliza Terranova, and Stanzy, Jacquelyn, and Vivian Moss. Lilly was preceded in death by her parents and ten brothers and sisters.

Services will be held on Friday, December 19, at 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, at Merle Hay Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St.

Meadows, age 90, of Stoughton, formerly of Spirit Lake, IA, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at Stoughton Hospital. She was born on March 25, 1918, in Rockwell City, Iowa, the daughter of Fre-derick and Ortincy Beachamp.

Janyce attended Rockwell City High School and Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. She taught school for a year and a half, before marrying Roy W. Meadows on May 18, 1940. They lived in New York City, Richmond, VA. and Washington D.

before returning to Grimes, Iowa. Janyce is survived by two sons, Brian (Michelle Huber) Meadows of Centennial, CO. and Kim (Nancy) Meadows of Madison, three grandchildren, Kaye Aswegen of King George, David (Kristin) Meadows of Naperville, IL. and Lee (Joe) LaRue of Little Rock, and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Gwen Meadows of Naperville, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Skaalen Home Chapel, 400 N. Morris Stoughton, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008. Burial will be at Sunny Hill Cemetery, Grimes, Iowa, at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008.

com BARBARA BRANIGAN Boone Barbara Branigan, 92, formerly of Pocahontas, died, December 15. Services 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Central Christian Church. Visitation 9 a.m. to service time. Walter Schroeder Funeral Home, Boone a Shambaugh Walker passed away in her sleep at the age of 63 from heart failure on Sunday December 14.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2008, at First Assembly of God in Des Moines followed by a luncheon at the church and a graveside interment at the Masonic Cemetery. Gorda was born July 6, 1945 in Rochester, Minnesota, at the Mayo Clinic, and was brought home to Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963. After high school she attended Milwaukee Downer Women's College in Wisconsin until it closed and then attended the University of Iowa. After college Gorda spent ten years living in Florida.

While in Florida she was a partner in a PR firm and helped run the public relations for the Jimmy Carter campaign. After the campaign she spent time working for the Democratic Party even though later in life she became a Republican. Gorda also spent time as a professional chef and spent many years as a supervisor for HomeCare Homemakers Service. Gorda was a long time friend of Bill W. and Dr.

Bob. On December 16, 1976 Gorda married Blake R. Walker Jr. During their 32 year marriage Gorda spent many years as a stay at home mother and volunteering. Part of her volunteer work included founding the Bernie Lorenz Recovery Center for Women, one of the first in Iowa and delivering for Meals on Wheels.

She was the President of the PTA at Des Moines Christian School for three years and worked on various projects through First Assembly of God Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church. At Westminster, Gorda was an ordained elder and represented the church at the Presbytery as well as being a life long member of the church. Gorda also was a member of Questers, P.E.O. and the Des Moines Historical Society. She worked for Mary Kay Cosmetics for over 10 years.

After raising her children, Gorda worked part time for eight years at Wellspring Parable Christian Bookstore, where she was known as the "Bible She is preceded in death by her parents Dr. G.I.G. and Frances Shambaugh, as well as her older sister, Frances (Frannie). She is survived by her husband, Blake R. Walker, Jr.

and children, Meghan Shambaugh Walker, Sarah Shambaugh Walker, Kim-berly Walker Ilardison and Christopher R. Walker. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexander Evans, Ethan Evans, Keisha Ilardison, Kirstee Ilardison and Katlyn Ilardison. There will be a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Westover Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Bernie Lorenz Recovery, 4018 Kingman Blvd in Des Moines, Iowa 50311.

1LES Westover Chapel 6337 Hickman Road SANDRA L. CLIPPINGER Altoona Sandra L. Clippinger, age 72 of Altoona, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial will take place in the spring.

Clippinger Memorial Fund. iLuklals, Larry was called home to heaven November 23, 2008. after 'Jjjjl struggling since February 2004, with complications from a catastrophic stroke. Larry is survived by his wife, Harriet Kay Eshel-man, and his son, Eric Eshelman, of Ankeny, Iowa.

Larry was born at home on September 18, 1932, in Altoona, Iowa, to Ralph and Veronica Eshelman and lived in and around Altoona for the remainder of his life. Larry attended Grand-view College and graduated from Simpson College with a degree in chemistry and education. He taught school in both Legrand and Earlham, Iowa until 1965 when he married Harriet. He began working for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in 1965 as a chemist.

He retired from Firestone in 1985 and took a position teaching in the chemistry lab at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He left his teaching position with Drake University in 1990 and worked as a substitute teacher in the Des Moines, Southeast Polk and Ankeny school districts until he suffered his stroke in 2004. During the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's, Larry maintained fifteen acres of strawberries at his farm in Altoona and every June would open the field to the public where he would sell strawberries by the pound. Larry loved planting fruit tree orchards, rows upon rows of raspberry plants and growing acres of vegetables on his farm in Altoona. He enjoyed selling the produce he raised at the Des Moines Downtown Farmers' Market and in more recent years selling flowers at the Farmers' Market with his wife, Kay.

Family and friends are invited to help celebrate Larry's life at a memorial service which will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, 10 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona, 1701 8th Street S.W., Altoona, Iowa. Survivors include her son, Terry Dakovich of Eagan, MN; daughter, Lucinda (Brandon Pounds of Clive; grandchildren: Shawn Dakovich, Jodi (Dave) Van Rossum, Chad (Reeve) Swertfager; great grandchildren: Shawn Dakovich, Jordan Lumley, Kendall Swertfager, and Kyler Swertfager.
