Walbridge H. Powell, of St. James, was in Rolla Tuesday. Mrs. A.

M. Light and children are in St. Louis visiting her sisters. Mra. S.

G. Williams of Newburg, was in this city shopping Friday. Miss Alice Weddell returned Thursday last from a pleasant visit to relatives in Kansas. W. R.

Hale and James Greig, were among the prominent men of Meramec township, who were in Rolla Saturday. Len Stuart, one of the ever faithful democratic standard bearers of near Relfe, was in Rolla Saturday on business. John A. Sally, who resides north of Rolla, near Veto post office, brought a heard of cattle to Rolla Saturday for sale. Judge Leslie B.

Hutcheson and wife, (of Vienna, were the guests of L. J. Schenker and wile the flatter part last week. Oscar Strobach, who is an ever welcome visitor to Rolla, was in our city last week. Oscar always claims Rolla as his home.

Sam Montgomery, who is associated with the St. Louis Pure Milk Commission, came out to spend Easter with his parents, C. S. Montgomery and wife. George J.

Grubb of Wickler was Rolla Saturday. Mr. Grubb has recently been elected clerk of his school district and be is anxious promote the cause of education. L. L.

Freeman and family, who have resided east of Rolla on Salem avenue, will return to his former home at Relfe to spend the summer. Mr. Freeman went out to Relfe Saturday. S. E.

Grubb one of the progressive young men of Meramec township had business in Rolls Saturday and while here he called at the Herald- -Democrat office and added his name among our list of subscribers. Judge J. M. Stephens, of Salem, was in Rolla Tuesday assisting ecuting attorney S. N.

Lorts in making some investigation into the matter of David Wilhams' store at Winkler being burglarized. Mr. Williams was also in Rolla. Mrs. E.

B. Bowles and Miss Lucy Sturgeon returned Tuesday from their visit to Representative A. C. Donnan and wife at Jefferson City, and from visiting friends in Sedalia. They expressed themselves as having had most delightful trip.

Joe Livingston, who has been holding a clerkship under Representative Rinehart at Jefferson City, arrived in Rolla Saturday to spend few days. Mr. Livingston was accompanied by Rayburn, of Jefferson City. Mr. Rayburn formerly lived in Bates county, and he is a democrat of the old school.

J. P. Robinson And wife of Pickins County, South Carolina, are spending some time in this county as the guests Mrs. Robinson's brothers, Judge Joseph Williams and Harrison Williams and sister Mrs. Columbus Pace of Dillon township.

Mr. Robinson accompanied Harrison Williams to Rolla last Saturday. He expressed bimself as being very much pleased with Phelps county and Missouri. Rolla Commandery Knights Templar held Easter services at the Episcopal church in this city Sunday afternoon. The Sir Knights assembled at the asylum at 2.30 p.an.

and after opening the Commandery, they marched under command of B. H. Rucker, Eminent Commander, to the church where service was conducted by Rev. F. M.

Weddell rector of the church, acting as prelate and who also preached an eloquent sermon on the reasonableness of the resurrection of Christ. Miss Mary McCrae sang 8 solo, "'Christ is Risen', Prof. Henniger played a trombone solo and special music was 800g by the Episcopal choir. Sir Knights Albert Mueller of St. James and Shanks of Dixon and Fulmer who resides east of Rolla, came to particepate in the service.

The church was filled with an audience who also joined in the service. Among those from out of town, were Mr. and Mrs. John French, Mr. and Mrs.

J. J. Forester, Mr. and Mrs. W.

H. Powell, Mrs. Albert Mueller, Mrs. Pinto, Miss Luther and Miss Mueller all of St. James.

The offering was for charity and will be expended by the committee: of ladies representing the several churches in Rolla. Templar Service. S. F. Martin, Father of Mrs.

F. E. Taylor, Dies. A telegram was received last Friday evening by Mrs. F.

E. Taylor nouncing the sudden death of bor father, S. F. Martin, which occurred that day athis homeat Hamilton, Missouri. Mr.

Martin was one of the old and prominent citizens of North Missouri. He was in his eighty eighth year when he died. He had served 88 a member of the legtalature from Caldwell county, and for years was a member of the School Board of his home town, ilton. He leaves his a wife and seven children to mourn loss, all of whom were present at bis funeral which took place from the Preebyterian church in Mrs. Taylor and son, Houston, left Rolla for Hamilton Saturday morning.

Her many friends in this city sympathize with her in her ment. Rinchart Did Not Vote. The bitterest fight before the souri legislature is over the queation of submitting to the voters a stitutional amendment for State Wide Prohibition. On the vote to send the bill to engrossment last week, it 18 noted that Representative Rinchart of this county was absent and did not vote. He will have a chance to redeem himself when the bill comes up.
