A. SAYS SCIENTISTS IN RACE TO GO ALL DIRECTIONS AT ONCE Editor's note: Philosopher on The Country his Johnson farm on Wallace Creek is taking a non-progressive attitude toward science this week, but we doubt it'll have any effect on science. Dear editar: Sooner or later I knew it wouid lappen. According, to an read last night in a per picked up after it fell out of my neighbor's mail box after I tilted it a little, the United States and Russia are now in a race lo see which one J. A.

However, there a spots in the ocean where the crust is only two or three miles and since man can drill a hole four miles deep, scientists are figuring 6n lowering their drilling instruments down to the bottom of the ocean floor near Rico and from there trying to penetrate the crust. At the same time, Russia is in the same race, although nobody inows where she's trying.

Consequently, the way it to me from my vantage point out here on my Johnson grass farm, the world is now in a race to see how far out and how far down, it can go at the same time. This is known as going in all directions at the same time. know the feeling, it's sort of spinning your tractor wheels trying to go forward while slipping sideways down a hill. It's lifoa gunning your motor while standing still in a traffic jam. And you can't criticize the scientists.

Everybody's doing it. Ifs the same thing as working fifty hours to buy a power lawnmower to save an hour's pushing with the old style model once a week. Although you can still turn a cow in and graze it off with no lawn- nower at all. As far as I'm concerned, it perfectly all right for man to explore space in the morning and die inner core of the earth in the afternoon, with his nights free to figure up the tax bill for both ventures, but there's still plenty to interest me right here in eye- range of my front porch. For example, there's a newspaper out there on the ground now with, a headline saying the cost of living index has gone up another notch.

Mine hasn't Ain't no notches left on mine. Fours faithfully, J. A. Mr. and Mrs.
