Obituary Policies The Des Moines Register publishes obituaries, free of charge, for people who lived in a 26ounty area of central Iowa at the time of their deaths or who lived there within the past 20 years. A photo is published if available and if it is no older than 10 years.

Abbreviated obituaries are published under the "Former Residents" heading for people who moved out of central Iowa more than 20 years ago. Due to space limitations, an obituary cannot be published for anyone who never hved in the 26-county region unless the person was widely known. The deadline for obituaries each day is 2 p.m. To reach the obituary writer, call (515) 284-8065. We strive to publish an obituary the morning after the information is received.

If that is not possible because of limited space, the Obituary will be published prior to the funeral. To include more information than we publish in obituaries, families can buy space in the "Death Notices" advertising listings on this page. The length and wording of "Death Notices" listings are left to the discretion of families. For information on the "Death Notices," call (515) 284-8477. STEAMATIC.
