Of special interest to the Alumni of St. Mathias school, Muscatine, was the evening panel discussion, "The Lay Apostolate in Action." The discussion leaders were Edward Masterson, Davenport, who is a graduate of St Mathias school, and Mrs.

John Cunningham of Rock Island. Mr Masterson in summarizing the material handled, paid sincere tribute to the Sisters who are playing such an important part in preparing the lay leaders today as in the past. At a meeting held at Mount Carmel, the results of the Mount Carmel Expansion Fund sponsored by the Alumni, were given The drive surpassed its goal by reaching a total of $617,400. In the list of 46 associations participating, St. Mathias of Muscatine ranked 13th with a total of $4,178 from its members.

Mother Josita speaking for all of the Sisters expressed her sincere gratitude to all who participated in the drive, saying, "We could never have achieved our goal without your generosity The daily prayers for benefactors said by over 2,000 B.V.M.'s express better than mere words the deep gratitude we feel toward all those who have helped us." Plans are being drawn up for enlarging the present Infirmary as soon as possible. Miss Marcella O'Neil received the first Mount Carmel award for outstanding work in the Alumni. Mrs, Charles O'Neil was reelected president for another term. The Sisters' meeting was conducted by Sister Mary Bernarda, B.V.M., of Mundelien college, former teacher in the Junior and Senior high school department at St. Mathias.

Grace Lutheran Married Couples To Hold Meeting Members of the Married Couples class of Grace Lutheran church will hold their June meeting at Park Lane Golf and Country club at 7 p.m. Thursday. Members and guests will 'participate in a short six-hole two- ball foursome of mixed couples in connection with the meeting, with those participating being asked to bring golf clubs and balls. Prizes will be awarded to high scoring and low scoring couples. The green fee will be 50 cents.

Refreshments will be served at the church basement after the games. MRS. O'BRIEN Koons-Lando Vows Planned July 10 At St. Petersburg Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Robert R.

Mr. Lando is a native of Gary 111., where he was graduated from Dundee high school "in 1948. He is now a member of the St. Petersburg police department. Group Returns from Visit in Detroit Mr.

and E. A.
