Mr. Ham said the attorney general could employ counsel at any salary he desired if that law was not repealed.

Mr. Ham moved to engross for a third reading, and On that called for the ayes and noes. The motion prevailed by a vote of 0 to 1. Mr. Wagner voted ia the negative.

Air. Whlttemore endeavored to get in an appropriation of $3,000 per annum to -the Arkansas agricultural association, but it was defeated. A message was received from the governor announcing his approval of certain actsj and informing the hotrje that having been elected as United States senator, he had turned over all books and papers of his office to the, president (Hadley) pro tern of the senate.) Mr. Whittemore also moved an additional item to appropriate $10,000 per annum towards the support of paupers left on Pulaski county by the breaking up of the U. 8.

hospital at this place. Mr. tiohbaugh moved to add lor Phillips county. Mr. Clayton moved to table both amend ments.

Carried. Mr. Chamberlain moved to give the Arkansas agricultural association $1,500 per annum, and made some pertinent remarks in favor of it, but the motion was tabled. Mr. Cate moved to $3,000 to Craighead county, to assist in building a court house.

Alter several amendments the bill was passed 53 to 12. Those who voted in the negative were Battle, Glass, Herring, Jenkins, Mason. Owen. Padgett. Talmer.

to-morrbw. aXIcb Court of Impeachment. The senate convened at 1 p. m. yegter day as a high court of impeachment, to proceed with the trial of Chief Justice McClure.

Acting Chief Justice Why tock presiding. The eergeant-at-arms made the usual proclamatiou commanding all persons to keep silent. The roll of senators was then called by the assistant secretary. Senator Barber was sworn in, and the proceedings of last meeting read. Mr.

Gantt, Youley, Wilshire and Warwick. i Senator Gallagher then appears! and was sworn in, alter which the secretary (the late lieutenant governor) assigned M.seats to the managers and ocuutttl for re- spondeut.

Messrs. Neaf and Minor were the only managers present, Mr. Meek; being sick. Mr. Wilshire, of counsel for then submitted a general demurrer to the articles of iiapeachment, claimisg that they were not sufficient in law, and asking for judgment for defendant.

Oa motion of Mr. Sarber the demurrer was placed oa Mr. Duffie asked for a reading of the articles of impeachment for information, but gave way lor a motion to adjourn to 10 s. m. Monday, which moi'on prevailed.

After further debate, the resolution was indefinitely postponed and Mr.

The motion to engross was lost, and the bill was referred to committee on counties and county lines. The committee on county and probate coo its recommended the passage of bill so change the time of holding courts in Dallas county. Ordered engrossed and made the special order for 5 p.m. The judiciary committee recommanded the passage of senate amendment to the constitution reducing the number of supremo judges to three. The committee recommended an amendment, so that a majority may constitute a quorum.
