A small tworoomed house was burned yesterday morning about three o'clock, in the alley running nortlh and south, be tween Fourth and Fifth and Broadway and Arch streets.

The engines were promptly on hand, but the light wood of the build ing burned like tinder, and the water was of little avail. A most horrible feature of the fire was the burning of a negro man named James Crawley, who had gone to sleep in the noose about an hour or two before its destruction by the flames. It seems that Crawley and his wife had sep arated recently, and he had removed his bed-clothes to this building, and was asleep when the firs burst out. From the position of the blackened trunk, it would appear that he was endeavoring to get out of the house, but being met by the smoke and flames fell forward on his face and thus lost1 his When our reporter Li ted the scene yesterday a crowd of negroes aad negresse-i were around tie indistinguishable mast, makicg all soacf remarks. 1 A coroner's jary a verdict ia accordance vi'Ji the facta stated above, asJ tbe charred remains were tlaeesst Lnrial.
