tight The Bee: Danville Va riday ebruary 22 1946 DOROTHY DIX DEAR MISS I am a returned seniceman AVhile I was overseas my wife was running around with sailors drinking smok ing and hsving a good time She wrote me saying that she had fallen in love with a sailor and wanted a divorce so she could mar ry him Said she had no fault to find with me but she just mar ned too young I give her the divorce but nince I am back home we are not Jiving together She wants to come back to me We have one child a 5 ear old boy If we go back to each other do you think that we will live happily? That is a question that no one not even you and your wife can answer It all depends on how much each of you Jias changed in the time you have been parted and with the experiencesyou have gone through And most of all it depends upon whether you can forget your wife's past as well as forgive it MARRIED TOO YOUNG 5 If the knowledge of her lack fof loyalty is going to rankle in the back of your mind and you are going to reproach her with it every time you have a differ ence of opinion then I think you had better give her a divorce and Jet her go her way in peace But if you have the strength to wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start in marriage then it is worth while to at least try the experi ment of living together again and establishign a home for your child's sake Your wife's excuse for her con that she married too young is a valid one She hadn't had her playtime of life She took on herself responsibilities before she was ready for them She wanted to have fun and dance and go with a gay crowd of her own age and when you went away to the war and left her and she was lonesome and bored the temptation to eat and drink and make merry and philander was more than she could resist Perhaps she has had her lesson now and has found out that the primrose path has plenty of thorns in it and she will make you a better wife because of her experi ence DEAR MISS I am 22 and my wife is 19 and we have been married for three years I love her very much but she will not wash and iron my clothes Does noth ing but sit around and read and smoke cigarettes Every time we have an argument of any kind she runs home to her mother which is very expensive for me as her moth er lives nearly a thousand miles away from my home We are liv ing with my parents while waiting to get an apartment Can you give me any advice about how to deal with my wife? A MIXED HUSBAND I would say that the best way to deal with a trifling wife who won even keep your clothes clean and who has the run ning back to Mothcr complex is to buy her a one way ticket to Moth er and let her stay there until she comes to her senses As long as your wife can hold leaving you as a club over your head she will do but once make her realize that you won't put up with a part time wife and that she is about to lose you she will come back and stay put But very likely one of the rea sons why your wife does nothing but loaf and smoke cigarettes is because she is bored with not hay ing anything to do She is not in her own home She is in her in law's where she has not authority and no real outlet for her energies Get her into a home of her own and she will probably surprise you by being a thrifty little housekeep er DEAR MISS I have been married now for eight months and my attitude towards me puzzles me He does not confide in me I do not know anything about his financial affairs or how much he makes Whenever he goes to the bank to make a deposit or to cash a check his mother goes with him We both work and he insists on knowing every cent I make and what I do with it Don't you think ii a queer thing for his mother to know all about her busi ness while I know nothing? ANSWER Evidently your hus band has never cut his apron strings and she is taking every precaution to keep him from ever doing it Anyway sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander and if your husband keeps his money to himself you will be wise to hang on to yours But it is no way for a young couple to start out in marriage DEPENDS ON LOCATION An observer looking north in the southern hemisphere sees the sun across the heavens from right to left while one looking south in the northern hemisphere sees the sun move from left to right Keen Chase Nets Alleged Auto Thief But The Big One Got Away A negro fugitive from justice with ten years to serve for robbery escaped but another colored man was arrested for violating the fed eral motor act after a spectacular chase yesterday The man who escaped was Watt Bowe who jumped from a convict truck last December when under ten year sentence in the corpora tion court here for robbery The arrested and held for federal au thorities was Robert Smith 20 of Winston Salem alleged to have stolen a car Police Lieutenant Norman Bos well' and Officer Dunn spotted Bowe in a car on Stokes Street and the chase began The car containing the fugitive and five other colored people veered into the Yanceyville road and the officers keen on their quarry put the cruiser up to 90 miles an hour at times but the fugitive driver was skilfull and pulled ahead The car was pursued until it turned in the Shady Grove road and the of ficers then being well in North Carolina with questionable au thority for service there came back to the city State Trooper Miller in the meanwhile took up the case from that point and by sound reck oning thought the fugitives might head back to Danville along Route No 29 He prepared an ambuscade at the underpass near Stokesland and nabbed the car Bowe and Smith leaped from it and fled down a dirt road They were pur sued and Smith was picked up at Pelham while Bowe escaped The four other negroes who remained in the car were released Soc: Welfare Costs Rising Reports Show Many Post War Problems Apparent The cost of social service is go ing up The annual meeting held yester day before which Mrs Agnes ul crod made her report showed the increasing costs of coping with 207 UNION ST ARRIVAL COLUMN Announcing The Arrival Of On Sole Saturday ebruary 23 No Phone Orders Accepted CANDY CORNER 1st LOOR CHICKEN BONE CANDY or BLACK WALNUT LAKES Crisp crunchy delicious candy with nuts!
