OADS1Y Corrigan (Continued from Front Page) it simple to cast twins in a rote when very young children are required for a TV or movie part, because a child cannot work more than four hours a day and that time must be broker up into minute segments. So, when producer Alvin conceived the idea of he contacted the "Mothers of Twins Club" in the Los Angeles area. Himself the father of twin girls, hs knew about this orginatioD wherein parents of twins get together to swap twin strollers, matching clodies, twin cribs and twin problems which arise in raising two children at the same time rather than one. And thus 20-month-old David and Steven Born don't have to worry about their college, educations. even at this tender age.

The monies they receive from co-starring (they share billing, course) in "Happy" have been invested by their engineer-father and by the time they're 18, they'll have tidy nesteggs to put them through school. Meanwhile, what of pretty found herself the mother of squirming babies when she was signed for the series? "I think I adapted pretty well fast too," she smiled with satisfaction. "I owe it all to my sister. I babysit for her youngsters every now and then and that's the best training of all. Even changing diapers doesn't throw me." Yvonne is also proxy parent to several hundred Japanese orphans whom she let 01 a State Department tour of American Army Installations some years ago.

She and her Buckner, have unofficially adopted the youngsters and are working for some of them to be adopted by American parents, similar to Jane Russell's Waif organization. "So you can't exactly say I was a novice when it came to handling children. These boys are particularly docile, too. They're not spoiled and they re very friendly. And ot course, with everyone making a fuss over them, they react to ihe limelight like little, flowers opening up in Parenthood came easily to Ronnie Burns too.

Because he'd had past experience at babysitting. As soon as he told his famous George Burns and Grade Allen that he was set to star in the "Happy" series, Gracie said with pride: "You'll be great. Just great. how your sister Sandra's children Iove you. And babies can always tell if people really like them or are just faking." (Continued Next Page) Roger C.

Perry HMM S4S71 BRYAN HARDWARE INC. The Best in Brand Name Merchandise "WE HAVE IT-CAN GET IT -OR IT ISNT MADE" Sam Levenson Is Host of 'Celebrity Talent Scouts' (Premieres Monday, Aug. 1, CBS Television Network, p. Sam Levenson, the good-natured humorist who presides as host to aspiring entertainers on "Celebrity Talent Scouts," is a former 'school-teacher who had some early show business as a career. Born in Manhattan on December -11, 1914, Sam was transported, at the age of 13, across the river to Brooklyn, where he, his seven brothers and one sister were in a close-knit family group, a -group that later was to provide the basis for much of Levenson's humor.

After graduation from Brooklyn College with a B. S. degree and Columbia University with a M.A. Levenson taught Spanish at Samuel Tilden High School in Brook- )yn for ten years because, he told himself: Levenson, you could starve. But you'll starve steady." Actually, he was not too far from starving in those days.

At graduation from Brooklyn College in the depression year of 1934, he had to forego his diploma because he could not afford the necessary small fee. It was not until 23 years later that he received the cherished free" in 1957 he was cited as the "Brooklyn College Man of the Year." When Sam Levenson married his school-time sweetheart, Esther Levine (they have a son, Conrad, 17, and a daughter, Emily Sue, 7) 18 years ago, their honeymoon consisted of a round trip by subway to Manhattan. An energetic photographer insisted on covering their wedding ceremony. The Levenson family and friends proudly examined the proofs in the photographer's studio, but never could raise enough money to purchase any prints. Levenson's career as a humorist got off to an accidental start as a result of funny notes he was wont to drop on his fellow teachers' desks at Samuel Tilden, and his little monologues at lunch.

Soon Levenson was making appearances at parties and other social functions at a munificent five dollars per engagement. His income grew with his repu- tation, and by 1948 he found himself with an emolument of 53,072 in one year as a $15,000 as a comedian. At this point, Levenson hesitantly decided to quit teaching, not without some reservations also on the part of his wife. Levenson became a national figure a year later, as a result of a CBS Television Network appearance on the "Ed Sullivan Show." He has since been seen on numerous television comedy starred last summer in his own "Sam Levenson Show" in a CBS Television Network time slot vacated by Arthur Godfrey, has presided as emcee on such shows as "So This Is Show Business" and "Two for the Money," and currently in a panelist on "Masquerade Party." In his 11 years as a show-busi-. ness luminary, Levenson has never forgotten his debt to the teaching profession.

He is in constant demand as a speaker at parent- teacher functions and has given his services to an average of some J50 PTA meetings a year throughout his non-teaching career. A typical recognition for his interest in education and educa- tors, Levenson was awarded a plaque for the Paterson (N.J.) High School, inscribed, "For the man who has done more for schools when he was out then when he was in." Monica Lewis Recalls Past Monica Lewis, singer and actress whom you see on "Shotgun Slade" and others on TV, thinks the most demanding job she ever- held down was as a substitute disk jockey from the lounge of New York's Copacabana night club. "That was tough," recalls Monica. "It meant a continual flow of patter from midnight until four in the morning." Her most exciting job she believes is when she joined Danny Kaye in a month long tour of Army camps and hospitals in Japan and at the front lines in Korea to entertain United Nations New York Disc Jockey To Have 'Walk-A-Thon 9 Demonstrating that radio can perform outstanding public service, New-York independent sta-. lion WINS, and its star disc jockey, Murray have begun" a 24-day "Walk-A-Thon" to benefit ihe National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

By the time the 24-day campaign is over on July 24, Kaufman will have visited more than 200 fund-raising locations. At each of these he ic educating the gathered crowd about the mysterious crippling disease, and is interviewing showbusiriess and civic, notables. He will then via telephone "beeper," cut in on whatever WINS program is on the air in order to tell how much money has been raised, and where his next stop will be. Kaufman, this year's Chairman of Deejays For MS, will conduct this campaign in New York City's five boroughs, parts of New Jersey, Nassau County and 'Sullivan County. No one can recall a previous example of a radio station and a- personality giving'such protracted assistance to a worthy cause.
