South, 73, of 5008 Walnut Drive, Pleasant Hill, died of cancer Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr.

South was born in Decatur and moved to Des Moines in 1953 from Zion. He worked for South and Mich-elson Masonry Inc. for 20 years and later retired as a road supervisor for Polk County. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Elks Lodge and Eastgate Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Betty; a daughter, Pamela Blankenfeld of Des Moines; a son, Douglas of Tucson, two sisters, Bobbe Allen of Creston and Maxine McDaniel of Leon; and two grandchildren.

Wayne Crittenden, 88, of Afton died of pneumonia Tuesday at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Afton, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery there. Mr.

Crittenden, a lifelong Union County resident, was a retired farmer and member of Masonic Lodge. He had served on several boards, including the Afton Co-op, Union County Fair, United Methodist Church and Union County A.S.C. He also had been a 4-H leader. He is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, Bill and Bob, both of Afton; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call after 9 a.m.

CHARLOTTE ERICKSON Story City Charlotte Erickson, 88, of Story City died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Wednesday at Bethany Manor Nursing Home there. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, of which she was a member.

Burial will be at Story City Cemetery. Mrs. Erickson was born in McCalls-burg and had lived her entire life in the Roland and Story City areas. She was a retired housekeeper and a member of Violet Club and ladies aid at her church. She is survived by a son, Charles of Story City; two sisters, Mildred Egemo of Story City and Ozelle Hov-ick of Roland; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. JEAN REESE Jamaica, la. Jean Reese, 69, of Jamaica, died of Hodgkin's disease Wednesday at Greene County Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m.

Friday at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Jamaica. Mrs. Reese was born in Story County and moved to Jamaica 40 years ago from Jewell.

She retired from Greene County Medical Center as a nurse's aide and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and American Legion Auxiliary, both of Jamaica. She is survived by a son, Roger of Boone; two daughters, Connie Neal of Yale and Bonnie Elston of Jamaica; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

HAROLD HALSTED Cedar Rapids Harold E. Halsted, 84, of Cedar Rapids died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Monday at Man-orcare Health Services there. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at State Center United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Mr. Halsted, born in Buchanan County, was a retired farmer who had lived near State Center before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1996. He had served on the Tama County Farm Bureau board and the Highland Township school board and was a member of United Auto Workers. He is survived by his wife, Fern; five daughters, Joanne Ward of Cedar Rapids, Loretta Zimbelman of Piano, Texas, Barbara Adkins of Tulsa, Colleen Mehaffey of Cedar Rapids, and Gwendolyn Home of San Francisco; two sons, Everett of Marshalltown and Wesley of Liscomb; two brothers, Carl of Marshalltown and Don of State Center; two sisters, Florence Elsberry of Marshalltown and Dorothy Petefish of Osage; 14 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mr. Cleghorn was born in Des Moines and had lived in the Avon Lake and Carlisle areas all of his life. He was a retired truck driver and a Navy veteran. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Howe of Carlisle; a son, Kenneth of Copperas Cove, Texas; a stepmother, Mabel Cleghorn of Avon Lake; a brother, Conrad, and a sister, Dixie Bardwell, both of Winterset; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Knight, born in Page County, had lived more than 40 years in Osceola, where she owned and operated Knight's Cleaners and was a member of Osceola Chamber of Commerce and Business and Professional Women's Club. She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Crenshaw of Winterset; a son, Stephen of Afton; three brothers, Ron Steeve of Clarinda, Lyle Steeve of Corning and Larry Steeve of Ellston; two sisters, Marjorie Huseman and Maryann Swanson, both of Clarinda; and three grandchildren.
