Des Moines Register ST OBITUARIES Tuesday, November 23, 2004 Page 5A LENORE F. DENNIS Des Moines Lenore F. Dennis died at home of natural causes on November 20, 2004, her 88th birthday. A memorial mass celebrating her life will be 10 a.m. today, November 23 at St.

Augustin's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Glendale Cemetery. Lenore was born in Beresford, SD to Len and Gertrude (Merrigan) Farley. She completed registered nurse's training at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She married her husband, Wayne E. Dennis, on January 15, 1942.

In 1945, after Wayne returned from service in WWII, the Dennis' moved to Sioux City, IA. They lived in Sioux City until 1954 when they moved to Des Moines. Lenore was a 50 year member of St. Augustin's Catholic Church and a member of the Wakonda Club and Cypress Lake Country Club in Fort Myers, FL. She volunteered for the Central lowa Blood Bank, Mercy Hospital, and local nursing homes.

Her interests included, bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, needlepoint and quilting. She was known as a great friend to all and was always available with a plate of food or her State Fair award-winning peanut butter balls. She led a wonderful life, spending summers at Lake Okoboji and winters at their home in Fort Myers, FL. First and foremost to Lenore was her family. She continually organized family gatherings and the annual Dennis Open Golf Tournament, in which she always made sure to put herself on the winning team.

Lenore is survived by her husband, Wayne Dennis of Des Moines; three sons, D.L. (Judy) Dennis of Ankeny, Michael Dennis of Houston, TX, and Patrick (Tina) Dennis of Davenport; two daughters, Terri (John) Walker of Waterloo and Kate (Tony) Colosimo of Clive; sister, Phyllis (David) Sibbernsen of Omaha, NE; brother, Earl (Lucy) Farley of Beresford, SD: grandchildren, Jay (Kim) Dennis, Chad (Tracey) Dennis, Kelly Dennis-Luttrell, Nick and Drew Dennis, John R. (Holly) Walker, Courtney (Sean) Spellman, Christopher Walker and Cady, A.J. and Carly Colosimo; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene and Delmar.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Augustin's Catholic Church or to the Ronald McDonald House. Dunn's Iles Funeral Homes BERNICE C. ORTH Des Moines Bernice C. "Bee" Orth, 88, a former resident of Briarcliff Retirement Center in Altoona, entered eternal life on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Parkridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pleasant Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24 at Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Entombment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines. She was born on November 13, 1916 in Delaware, Iowa. Bernice Christina Pearson married Arnold George Orth on March 1, 1938 in lowa.

He preceded her into eternal life on June 27, 1995. Bee was a long time resident of Des Moines and retired from Meredith Corporation. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bee was a grand lady and will be missed by all. Bee is survived by her son, Rodney Orth and his wife, Nancy; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Lacey, all of Des Moines.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Westover Iles Funeral Homes ROBERT G. SUTHERLAND Sun City West, AZ Robert G.

Sutherland died on November 7, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Barbara (Greg) Miles of Apple Valley, MN, and Carol (Dave) Beavers of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, David and Jonathon Miles and Brian and Aaron Beavers; sister, Margaret (Leland) Couch of Urbandale; and brother, John B. (Lois) Sutherland of Bothell, WA. Mr. Sutherland was born on December 2, 1922 in Des Moines, IA.

He graduated from Drake University College in 1948. He was president of council in 1948. During WWII, Bob served three years in the Navy on the USS Orion in the South Pacific. He retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and Through his life, he was active in a variety of church and community activities.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m.

Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Quad Cities YWCA in Rock Island, Illinois.

Mr. Creger was born on October 30, 1914 in Monroe, Iowa to Walter and Nellie Creger. He attended Monroe public schools and college at Central College in Pella, Iowa and Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. Mr. Creger was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Little Rock, Arkansas, where he served as Deacon and the Village Presbyterian Church of Overland Park, Kansas.

He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad for 35 years and retired from the position of Chief Train Dispatcher. Mr. Creger re-entered the work force as Field Agent for the Federal Equal Opportunity Office in Washington DC. He married Barbara June Jones in 1941 and a second marriage to Virginia Hobsteader in 1981. Mr.

Creger authored six books on various topics and is best known for his works "This is What We Found" and "Train Power." He was a life long advocate for the rights of minorities and the elderly. He was a basketball enthusiast both as a player and a fan, often driving several hours to see a "big Mr. Creger loved cats and strawberry pie. Survivors (and spouses) include his sons, Carl (Lesley) Creger of Rock Island, Illinois, and Jerry Creger of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Christy Creger (Stuart) Jackson of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Carlton (Susan) Creger of Rock Island, Illinois; step-grandchildren, Matthew Haynes of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Simon (Karyn) Haynes of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Gail (Shayne) McGaughy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr.

Creger was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia and his sister Helen, Brightwell. His former wife of 26 years, Barbara Richey, resides in East Moline, Illinois. DAVID PAUL EVANS Collins David Paul Evans, 49, died on Sunday, November 21, 2004 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 23 at the Collins Christian Church, with Pastors Scott Jones, Penny Hansel and David Cartwright officiating.

David was born on March 21, 1955 in Marshalltown to Earl L. and Darlene F. (Haley) Evans. He attended Ankeny High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1975.

David married Vickie K. Olson on October 1, 1977 in Kellogg. He was self-employed as a lawn care specialist and also had been the manager of the Farmer's Co-op in Collins. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball (Atlanta Braves), serving as a baseball umpire for girls softball and Little League and family dinners. On July, 2004 he received the Story County Little League Umpire Award.

David is survived by his wife, Vickie Evans; his son, Joshua D. Evans; his daughter, Samantha R. Evans, all of Collins; his mother, Darlene Evans' of Ankeny; three brothers, John (Peggy) Evans, Chuck (Brenda) Evans and Barry (Sue) Evans; and a sister, Teresa (Chris) Evans-Winfield, all of Collins. David is preceded in death by his father, Earl Evans on May 30, 1996. A memorial fund has been established.

Emery Charles Burchett, son of Charles Anderson and Elizabeth Ann (Follmer) Burchett, was born March 1, 1919 in Decatur County, lowa. He died Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa. Emery graduated from Grand River High School in 1937. He farmed until the early 1980's when he retired to Osceola. He was an active member of the Grand River Lions Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his sister, Virginia Clement and husband Howard of Altoona, lowa; five nieces and nephews and their spouses; eight great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. RON WHITE Oskaloosa Funeral services for Ron White will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Following the service, the body will be cremated.

A private family interment will occur at a later date. GERTRUDE M. OSBURN Albert Lea, MN Gertrude M. Osburn, 94, died November 18, 2004 in Saint Paul, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m.

today, November 23 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. Interment will be 3 p.m. today at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, IA. 24 at South Marion United Methodist Church, south of Stratford. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery.

John was born on a farm near Stratford on July 16, 1910, the son of Henry and Lorena (Quick) Knuth. The family moved to Ogilvie, Minnesota in 1917 where he farmed and tended dairy cows with his father. He moved back to the family farm in Stratford in 1931 1 where he farmed. He married Bernadine Nelson on March 15, 1940 in Boone. John retired in December of 1978 and the couple moved into town.

He was a member of South Marion United Methodist Church, the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star. In earlier years, he was meter reader and Treasurer of the South Marion Electric Coop and a director of the Stratford Grain and Supply. He enjoyed fishing and camping. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in August of this year; one sister, Dorothy Berglund; and a great-nephew, Michael Mahoski. He is survived by one sister, Sally Lundberg of Stratford; three brothers-in-law, Clifford Nelson and Orvil Nelson, both of Boone and Bob Magnuson of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone today until 9 p.m. where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until services time. JOHN (MOOSE) DEFRANCISCO Marshalltown John (Moose) DeFrancisco, a resident of the Veterans Home in Marshalltown, died Sunday, November 21, 2004 of Hunington-Corea. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. John was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Armstrong Tire in 1991.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise, Chrissy and Jenny DeFrancisco; brothers and sisters, Frank, Theresa DeFrancisco, Kathy Kunerth and Annette DeFrancisco; and grandkids, Christopher, Corey, Kelsey, Justin, Emily and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marge and a brother, Joseph. Brooks Funeral Care Tonini Chapel GEORGE ROY HAYNES The Villages, FL George R. Haynes, 77, died Thursday, November 11, 2004. Mr. Haynes was born in Victor, Colorado and moved to The Villages, Florida from Des Moines in 2001. He was a retired mail carrier for the U.S.

Postal Service; a U.S. Army Veteran of World War Il; and enjoyed compiling statistics for college football. Survivors include his wife, Ghislaine; sons, Ray of Urbandale, Daryl of Granger and Everette of Maxwell; daughters, Cauline Belluchi of Camdenton, MO, and Sherie Gienau of Redfield; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at St.

Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 28th Des Moines. BETTY FORBES Storm Lake Betty Forbes, 78, died November 16, 2004 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center. Dunn's Iles Funeral Homes Harry Wallace Mathes, 79, of rural Montezuma, IA, died Wednesday November 17, from injuries received in an auto accident. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Montezuma Methodist Church. He was born February 16, 1925 in Oskaloosa, IA, the son of Harry George and Elsie Viola (Blanchard) Mathes. He was a Korean War Army Veteran.

Wally farmed all of his life south of Montezuma, was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and did a lot of volunteer work for the church and 4-H in earlier years. He also served on the Conservation Commission for several years. Wally was also a member of various saddle clubs and the Farmers Union. He faithfully attended the lowa State Fair and always enjoyed visiting with people. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kim and David; and a sister, Ruth Lucas.

Wally is survived by his wife, Shirley and their family, Connie Jean Mathes of Montezuma, IA, Cathie June (Hector) Ochga of Harrisburg, VA, Jon Valentine Mathes of Pella, IA, and Carolyn Joy Mathes of Grinnell, IA; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two on the way; five sisters, Barbara Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Dorothy Blydenburg of Kansas City, MO, Frieda (Bruce) Slawson of Waverly, IA, Joy (Bill) Shwartz of Traverse City, MI, and Mary Margaret Feusner of Columbus, OH; brother, Wilbur (Wanda) Mathes of Walls, MS; brother-in-law Dan Lucas of Sigourney, IA; sister-in-law Frances Cook of Belle Vista, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. MIDDOUR-WAGGONER Des Moines Wilma "Bill" Elizabeth Middour-Waggoner, 89, passed away November 18, 2004 at her home. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 23 at McLaren's Funeral Chapel. Wilma was born January 25, 1915 in Storm Lake, Iowa. During WWII she moved to Des Moines and started a career at the downtown Younkers as a beautician and a part-time model.

In 1954 she opened up her own beauty salon in her home. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Beaverdale and was a member of the Bishop Drumm Guild. She enjoyed painting and visiting with her customers. She is survived by her daughter, Karen S. Casson of Aspen, CO; son, Scott F.

Middour of Des Moines; sister, Lucille DeHart of Independence, CO; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. McLaren's Chapel Dignity, at Resthaven Cemetery DONALD BROWN Grinnell Donald Brown, 92, of Ames and formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A graveside service and burial for Mr. Brown will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 24 at Westfield Cemetery in rural Grinnell.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to service time at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be directed towards Israel Family Hospice House. Helen was born to France and Otelia (Carlson) Norman on July 17, 1918 in Swedesburg, IA. She went to school at Olds Community School, graduating in 1936. She attended Parsons College in Fairfield and graduated from AIC in Davenport in 1937.

Through the years, she worked at John Deere, George Norman Co. and EquiFAX. Helen was a long time member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and the Kings Daughters organization. She married Robert Mcintosh in 1942 in Swedesburg.

They lived in Davenport until they moved to Des Moines in 2003. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Edwin and Elaine Reinking of Kennewick, WA: son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Danling Mcintosh of Santa Barbara, CA; and son, Edwin Mcintosh of Des Moines; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Les Anderson of Rock Island, IL; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Clarette and Leo Morrow; and one nephew, Larry Morrow. Serviced were held at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Monday, November 22, with Rev.

Phillip Borleske officiating. Interment followed at the Swedesburg Church Cemetery. The family met with friends following the interment at the Swedesburg Parish hall for a luncheon and fellowship.
