Served for 25 years with station K S L. into production. These troubles have led and continue to lead some to feel that possibly the Atomic Energy Commission might be reverting to the original almost disastrous policy of keeping our uranium reserves in the ground. Of more recent origin is the Uncertainty of uranium claims located upon oil and gas lease land of the public domain. (Solution to this now appears to~J>e in the making through administrative action under the Atomic Energy Act rather than by complicated legal procedures.) At Denver, top members of .AEC and one of the commission disavowed any desire to keep the or* in the ground and indicated that where such apparent cases ^xisted, the blame should be placed upon the A EC's preoccupation on scientific prob-. lems, security measures and the vast arcay of administrative regulations. In'this connection, one significant suggestion was made by Blair Burwell of Grand Junction. It was that mpre of the commis- sion'should obtain first-hand familiarity with the daily hardships of the small uranium.prospector and-miner.. the gas constitutes in mines on the Colorado Plateau. Better mine ventilation is one answer to the threat, he added. Principal U. S. The firm's No. 1 Elmer Moon in the Antelope Area was flowing about five barrels an hour from between 6,520-71 in the Green- river formation. The oil was cut from nine to 35 per cent with water. However, firm engineers expressed confidence that a "shut off" could be obtained; This well is about -six miles east of the Duchesne pool, where Carter discovered oil in the Wasatch formation. The Elmer "Moon well produced about 250,000 cubic feet a day of natural gas on testing. The Hawaiian Broadcasting System operates Radio Station K G M B and recently was granted a construction permit by the Federal Communications Commission for a television station. A veteran 'of 25 years' service with the Radio Service Corporation of Utah, Mr. Evans rose from technician to general manager and vice president of K S L and KSL-TV. KSL-TV was founded under his direction and ihe also has directed construction of the station's new transmitter almost 10,000 feet high in the Oquirrh Mountains, making KSL-TV America's highest television station. But the total windfall will be only about 530,000—an average of slightly more than 20 cents per customer. The overcharge will be credited on the next month's light bills. Hal S. The U. S. Navy now holds patents in his name and much of this work is still classified secret. Utilizing new pickup techniques, he designed equipment installation for the weekly CBS broadcasts of the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir and i Organ, the country's oldest sustaining network program. He also holds patent applications for recently developed recording and reproducing devices for use in television and radio. Mr. Evans is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Avnerican Institute of Radio Engineers, the Acoustical Society of America and the Radio Executives Club of America. TALENT, District Supervisor NEW YORK, Sept. 26 The stock market finally declined Friday after a.session replete with hesitancy. It was not until the latter part of the final hour that the market started lower. Then it seemed to give way gently all around. Actually the slide probably was due to nothing more than week-end selling and short- term profit-taking. The industrial component of the average was down 50 cts., the railroads were down 30 cts., and the utilities were down 10 cts. Volume was comfortably high at 1,180,000 shares as compared with 1,210,000 shares traded Thursday. There was no particular buildup on the decline, an action which would have bearish connotations. The list had a normal breadth of 1,090 individual issue« on the tape of which 320 advanced and 457 declined with 23 new highs and 27 new lows c"nt for the year reached during the day. Throughout the day there was a high degree of selectivity. The day's most active issue was National Distillers off Vt at 20;s with a volume of 35,700 shares traded.
