Alber was attending a police school at Iowa City, and Assistant Chief of Police Roger West was on Britain's chancellor of exchequer, Sir John Simon, Friday Issued a stern warning that the mia-ia. world must find a way to halt the "terrifying total of expenditures on armaments." In house of commons debate preceding approval of the government's finance bill, Sir John defended his staggering budget of nearly 5 billion dollars of which about $1,320,000,000 in for the fighting services. But regarding arms costs, Sir John said: "If we do not succeed, and the world does not succeed, in finding some way in which we can stop the folly of this everlasting expenditure on armaments, then indeed the future we are preparing for our children is one at which we may shudder." Joe McCool, 21, of 2109 Maple Friday was said by police to have confessed the theft of a truck two weeks ago from a storage barn at the Iowa state fair grounds.
