He told how his sister, a war factory worker, screamed for mercy as he shot her the first time on a lonely hill. "Don't kill me," Zoine begged, Alexandre said as he may have had President Roosevelt's face in mind, but 1 was not conscious of reproducing his features in the drawing." Representative Knutson said he intended to offer his illustrated lecture as proof that the OWI is propagandizing for President Roosevelt's re-election. Help save a life! medium (16 to 18) and large (20 to 40). $3. THIS WOMAN ADMITS MEN BEST DRIVERS When a woman is penitent she is liable to admit almost anything, even that men excel as drivers. Rae E. Walters, office of price administration (OPA) chief for the Des Moines district, Friday re ceived a letter from a north Iowa woman asking for a certificate to buy a new tire.

It seems that she. ruined one in extricating the family car from a railroad track predicament. "Henceforth." she wrote, "I propose to let the man of the house do the driving and perhaps things will run smoother. Here's one woman driver who finally has learned where her place is." Walters said he had referred the request to her county rationing board. Chamberlain's LILAC VEGETAL By' Nat Finney.

(Of The Register's Washington Bureau.) WASHINGTON, D. A fresh attack on the office of war information (OWI) for approving a series of colored posters on which President Roosevelt is portrayed as Uncle Sam is scheduled to break in congress Monday. Representative Harold Knut-son Minn.) said he expects to launch the attack with what he calls "an illustrated lecture," in which he will display two copies of the poster, one as it appears in taxicabs, post offices and war plants, and a second, with the whiskers and top hat masked off to show only the stern features of the president. The poster, painted for the of fice of war information by Leon Helguera, a New York artist, carries a warning against loose talk. It is produced in three sizes, one a small gummed sticker for use in cabs, the second a 9 by 11 inch sheet, and the third a 24 by 36 inch poster.

Viewed uncritically the Uncle Sam who poses with one finger to his lips appears to be just another picturization of the familiar national symbol. When the whiskers and top hat are covered, however, the face is instantly recognized as that of the president. Leon Helguera, reached at his New York office Friday, attributed the likeness to his subconscious mind. Helguera impliedly admits the likeness. "I have had a great many people call my attention to the resemblance between the face of Uncle Sam on my poster and the face of President Roosevelt," Helguera said.

"I can assure you this was not intentional. It is only natural, of course, that a poster of Uncle Sam should represent the facial characteristics of the American people today. I did not have a picture of the president before me when I drew the face." (Lead ers of the five railroad operating unions Friday favored a nationwide strike "vote among their 350,000 members and rejection of a pro posed wage increase of 4 cents an hour. Their sentiments were reported by qualified spokesmen who asked that their names be withheld after the general chairman of each of the labor organizations discussed the issues in separate sessions. A joint meeting of all leaders of the five unions was arranged for today to act on a formal resolution calling for rejection of the 4-cent pay hike and recommending that the workers be polled on the question of striking. The wage increase was suggest ed by an emergency board last month but it was termed an "insult" by the labor chieftains who had demanded a minimum increase of $3 a day. David Robertson, head of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen, reported volumes and volumes" of tele grams from workers advocating a strike call.
