By BUD APPLEBY Register Staff Writer Most people still recall their high school graduation by digging out the family album and going through old photographs. But that is changing. Many parents today capture the event on videotape. And companies have formed to do that for them. Duane and Erma Kibby of 11889 Madrid Drive in Polk City, for example, have started Video Memories, a firm that videotapes such special events as weddings, anniversary receptions and graduation ceremonies.

They did the North Polk High School graduation for the fifth time this year and the Saydel High School ceremonies for the third time. They get rave reviews from both places. "They are very, very professional," said Gary Fjelland, the North Polk High School principal. "They are very caring people, and they try to produce a quality product." Chris Bohnet, a marketing teacher at Saydel, called Kibby "a wonderful man, and he does us up right." The Kibbys try to tailor the product to what the schools want. At North Polk, for example, the baccalaureate ceremonies are included at an extra cost; at Saydel, some of the junior-senior prom is included.

At the prom, Kibby said, "every student and their dates introduce themselves" for the camera. The graduation tapes at North Polk is $15, or $20 with a special graduation cover. Duane Kibby said many parents have their own video cameras and tape their own children, but he said they seldom get the entire ceremony. He said he and his wife use two camera to capture everything from more than one angle and edit the tapes onto one master tape for the finished product. And he said they get everything from the processional to the speeches they have a microphone on the stage and the acceptance of the diplomas. His tapes, he said, are "basically for parents who want a little more professional quality." He said the tapes usually run an hour or a little longer.
