Proposed Deaf School Site Ruled Unsuitable By Officials Of State GnifiENSBQUO Gullford County commissioners learned Wednesday they must renew their effort to locale a site for the Central North Carolina School for the Deaf. The information came in the form of notification from slate officials that a proposed sewer treatment plant on a site in eastern Guilford County, where officials had hoped to locate the school, would pollute the planned Greater Alamance Reservoir. County officials immediately asked the state for additional lime to find a which will he acceptable to parties. "I am optimistic that we can come up with a site that is suitable to all parties, state and local, within three weeks," Commission Chairman Richard Maxwell said. Maxwell also expressed some concern about plans under way in Alamance County for a reservoir, which would include a substantial Fraternity At HPG To Provide Tax Help Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity at High Point College will provide an income tax service for area residents shortly that is after A Phi 0 members complete a training course led by the High Point Internal Revenue Service.

"Dates and times for us to fill out income tax forms as a free service to the public will be announced later," said Joe Yacyshyn of Wilmington, first vice president of A Phi 0. Approximately 15 members of the service fraternity will schedule time away from their studies to prepare all types of tax forms. "They wi.ll probably work nights from six until nine," said Yacyshyn. Through April 15, Yacyshyn and other officers and members of A Phi 0 will work with all types of tax forms, including North Carolina, out- of-state and federal tax forms. "We will not be able to provide out-of-state tax forms for those who have recently moved to the state," added Yacyshyn, "but we will be glad to help those who need assistance or we will fill them out for those who have them." Meeting a i.

conference rooms in the new Holt McPherson Campus Center will be used to prepare the tax forms. "We will have a sign-up list to serve those on a first-call basis," said Yacyshyn. Those desiring tax assistance can call. the college at 885-5101, extension 65, between the hours of-8 a.m. and 5 p.m., he added.

A Phi 0 members convene for classes today and Friday with staff members of High Point's IRS office to learn more about the preparation of tax forms. This is the first time that a student organization at High Point College has offered to provide income tax assistance to area residents, Yacyshyn said. A Phi 0 members will work closely with the staff at the High Point IRS office. Once a week all tax forms prepared during that week will be taken to the High Point IRS office for checking prior to forwarding the tax forms to IRS in Memphis. Out-of-state.

tax forms may be received by making a request to the State Department of Revenue in Raleigh. area of land in Gullford County. "That a municipality outside of Gullford County would take 25 per cent of the county for a walevtfhed without written consent of the Guilford County commissioners is shocking, Maxwell said. "We abhor it," he said and added that the county will ask the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments for a "full appraisal" of the project. Maxwell said that plans by Alamance County m- munities to build a large reservoir extending into Guilford County could in restriction of development in la-ge areas of southeastern Guilford County in the area whers the reservoir would be located.

Addition of this area to other areas already designated at watersheds in the county could mean that as much as three-quarters of the entire county would be classified under this designation. Watershed classification restricts residential development to one dwelling for each 40,000 square feet, twice the size of usual rural lots and far above the 12,000 square foot lots in many cities. Only a few weeks ago, plans to locate the Central School for the Deaf on a site on U.S. 29 north of Greensboro fell through and commissioners began looking for a new location. Then a tract on 1-85 east of Greensboro was offered in the area of the Rock Creek Farm, It was this site that state officials found to be unacceptable, They said it was completely impossible to put the school on the land since adjacent land is being proposed as a reservoir for Alamance County.

i Host: Dennis James H-l By JAY SHARBUTT AP TtUvition Wrlttr NEW YORK (AP) The CBS Television is broadcasting tonight th" final interview any reporter had with former President Lyndon B. Johnson before Johnson's death last month at 64. You should watch it, but don't expect startling revelations. It's not that kind of interview nor was il intended to be. It's just a quiet hour's visit with a weary, much-maligned man as he talks about what he considered his greatest accomplishment as president progress in equal rights for all Americans.

And he comes across as an unexpectedly soft-spoken, reflective man, not as the jutjawed, easily-caricatured Johnson who le'l this country through five of its most turbulent years. Entitled "LBJ: The Last Interview," the program was filmed at the LBJ ranch in Texas 10 days before the former president died of a heart attack. His interview with Walter Cronkite was conducted in guest quarters called the Ce'lar House. The whole thing took less than two hours, interrupted only when Johnson an attack of angina pectoris. He stepped outside briefly to take a nitroglycerine tablet that eased the pain, then returned and insisted on conMnuin" tlr interview, according to the show's producer, Bu-ton Benjamin.

The completed program contains film clips of Johnson's major civil rights. addresses, among them his famous 1965 speech to Congress that included the black rallying cry: "We shall overcome!" Cronkite noted that many siy Johnson, in his zeal to do something for the blacks and unrlei'iprivileged of hsi cimn ry, "pnniisfid so much and the delivery was difficult. "Do you think that you overpromisfid?" he asked. Johnson's stubborn pride showed in his first answer: "No, I don't know what we promised. We had certain goals and we made certain but I'm unaware of a lot of promises had maHe that weren't fulfilled." Cronkite rephraseH the it in the context of "the promise of a better life." Johnson backed into the answer.

He -first credited his administrat ion's accomplishments in civil rights, medical care and education to the groundwork laid 20 years earlier by President Harry S. Truman. "I just haopened 'o the talyst," he said in part. He finally acknowledged that "a great many people did say we went too far and we went too fast. And we well might have, but the coun'' was long ovardue." The hour with Johnson contains much more, but its primary virtue is that it gives us a long impression of a proud, complex man in the twilight of major accomplishmen's and defeats.
