a Lowell A. Barkley, 62, of 4205 98th Urbandale, died of a heart ailment Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr.

Barkley was born in Cum- ming and lived in Urbandale 43 years. He retired from Norwest Bank and was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Welfare Masonic Lodge and Norwalk Order of the Eastern Star. Among survivors are his wife, Carol; a son, Dan of Marion; four daughters, Megan Vespestad of Olathe, and Becky Barkley, Sandy Baker and Michelle Branda, all of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul of Norwalk and John of Des Moines; a sister, Vivian Essick of Norwalk; and three grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Caldwell-Raddatz Hickman Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Rudolph Manfredini, 72, of 412 First West Des Moines, died of a heart ailment Wednesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Mr. Manfredini lived in West Des Moines all his life and retired as a custodian with the Des Moines public schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Among survivors are his wife, Helen; his mother, Dina Manfredini, and a brother, Dante, both of West Des Moines; and two sisters, Mary Russo of Urbandale and Enes Logli of Des Moines. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was the former owner of Lee Highland Radiator Shop and had been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Among survivors are four daughters, Beverly Johnson of Urbandale and Mildred Backstrom, Evelyn Davis and Shirley Thomas, all of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church. Mabel Marie Highland, 92, of Ur- Lydia M. Wolfe, 96, of 3906 S.E. 26th St. died of a heart ailment Wednesday at home.

Services will I be graveside at 11 a.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Mrs. Wolfe was born in Corning. She retired as a nurse at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

L. J. J. Auburon Paul Hauser, 78, of Indianola died a heart ailment Tuesday Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Melbourne, and burial will be in Melbourne Cemetery. Mr. Hauser was born in Marshall County and moved to Indianola in 1984 from Illinois. He retired as a colonel in the U.S.

Army after serving 28 years, including during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He later worked for and retired from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in Glenwood, Ill. Among survivors are his wife, Vivian; a daughter, Mary Ann Abair of Littleton, a son, Tim of Washington, D.C.; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at Overton Funeral Home, where the family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Kay L. Thomas, 83, of 3214 49th St. died of a respiratory ailment Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be a at 10 a.m.

Among survivors are her husband, Howard; two daughters, Jean Whetstone of West Des Moines and Mary Rittgers of San Antonio, Texas; a stepdaughter, Louisa Hewlett of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Lois Mae Walters, 79, of 5921 Winwood Drive, Johnston, died Monday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center of complications of pneumonia. The body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, and memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Casey United Methodist Church. Mrs. Walters was born in Casey and lived in Lenox before moving to Des Moines seven years ago.

She retired as owner of a restaurant in Lenox. A daughter, Stephanie Gilman of Bondurant, survives. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Merle Hay Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Thelma Lorraine Lewis, 85, of 928 30th St.

died of a heart ailment Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. The body was cremated and memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery in Trenton, Mo. Mrs. Lewis was born in Larado, and lived in Des Moines most of her life.

She retired as an administrative assistant at Storey-Kenworthy and was a member of First Christian Church. The body was cremated and no services are planned. Mrs. Rittenour was born in Brooklyn and lived in Des Moines 30 years. She had been a banquet waitress. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Seager of Oklahoma City; a sister, Maxine Brown of Ames; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Southtown Funeral Home is handing arrangements. Fred LaVon Maxwell, 77, of Ames died Monday at Story County Hospital Skilled Care of complications of a heart ailment. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Calvary United Methodist Church, and burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Mr.

Maxwell was born in Maxwell and moved to Ames in 1951. He was a retired farmer and had also worked for the Milwaukee Road and City of Ames line department. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Golden Kiwanis. Among survivors are his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Sheila Waterbury of Arizona, Myrna Nordin of Ames and Pam Stewart of Missouri; two sons, Jerry Shultz of Florida and Rick Maxwell of Ames; a brother, Maurice of Maxwell; a sister, Wilma Jean Zabka of Champaign, 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

Adams Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Vernon James Michael, 61, of Fresno, died of cancer at a nursing home there Saturday. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingsway Cathedral in Des Moines, with burial of the cremains in McDivitt Grove Cemetery in Urbandale. Mr.

Michael lived all his life in Des Moines until moving to Fresno four years ago. He retired from Chicago North Western Railway and was a Navy veteran. Among survivors are three daughters, Virginia Graziano of Michigan and Rhonda Perkins and Debra Stuart, both of Des Moines; a son, Richard, and two brothers, Lester and Wayne, all of Des Moines; a sister, Doris Besco of Ottumwa; and six grandchildren. Arlo Stogdill, 68, the founder and former owner of Stogdill's TV Appliance in Des Moines, died of cancer Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Mr. Stogdill was born in Ellston and moved to Des Moines from Diagonal about 1950. He currently lived at 5275 N.W. Burr Oak Drive, Johnston. Surviving are his wife, Beverly; a son, James of Des Moines; a daughter, Jeri Pau of Vista, two brothers, Nolan of Crawfordsville and Clifford of St.

Coury was born in Sioux City and lived in the Des Moines area 50 years, retiring from The Des Moines Register and Tribune Co. He was a member of the Phoenician and Dowling clubs. Among survivors are four daughters, Marilyn Pearson of West Des Moines, Catherine Coury of Shawnee, and Madonna Plew and Rose Cordaro, both of Des Moines; a son, Michael of St. Louis; a sister, Clara Macy of Golden, two brothers, Manuel and David, both of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Keller lived in Des Moines all his life before moving to Indianola a year ago. He is survived by his mother, Sherrel Bain of Des Moines; a sister, Kim Hodge of Altoona; and a half sister, Jane Horton of California.

Sickler, a homemaker, was born in Marion County and lived in Knoxville and Shenandoah before moving to Pleasantville. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Wilson of Knoxville and Vickie Sickler and Diane Goemaat, both of Pleasantville; three sons, Bill DeHeer of Pleasantville, Jim DeHeer of Guam and Kevin DeHeer of Ackworth; three sisters, Claudine Komarek of Onawa and Norma Koons and Patsy VandeKamp, both of Pleasantville; a brother, Eddie Salsberry of DeKalb, 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Leo Paul Contri, 75, of Highwood, who lived in Granger until 1941, died of a heart ailment Monday at Highland Park (Ill.) Hospital. Charles Leon Ribbey, 49, of 2110 26th St. died Tuesday near East Seventh Street and Broadway Avenue after being by a state trooper.

The death is under investigation. Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Southtown Funeral Home, and graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Clarinda. Mr.

Ribbey, a general laborer, was born in Clarinda and lived in Des Moines about 10 years. According to relatives and the funeral home, he is survived by two sons, Chris and Danny, both of Des Moines; his stepfather, Walt Perdue, and a brother, Steve, both of Clarinda; and five sisters, Karen Larsen of Blanchard, Debra Taylor of Gravity, Sharon Winget of Hancock, Shirley Foster of Clarinda and Tamera Gillespy of Des Moines. Mr. Ribbey's companion was Dorothy Allen of Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Kueper, a homemaker, was born in Sandyville and lived in Knoxville most of her life. She is survived by four daughters, June Peck of Knoxville, Judy McDonald of Denver, and Shirley Balkema and Pat Kraber, both of Des Moines; two sons, James Kaster of Chula Vista, and Cecil Banks of Knoxville; two sisters, Betty Cooper and Marilyn DeZwarte, and four brothers, Bill Bacus, Charles Bacus, Beryl Bacus and Bert Bacus, all of Knoxville; 21 a grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Phyllis L. Sorenson Rumley, 68, of 2 Davis St. died of a heart attack Monday at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Southtown Funeral Home and at 3 p.m.

at Cainsville (Mo.) Christian Church. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery in Cainsville Mrs. Rumley was born in Lebanon, S.D., and lived in Cainsville before moving to Des Moines in 1960. She retired as a sales associate for Kmart and was a member of Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church. Among survivors are two daughters, Gracie Myers Peoria, and Martie Myers of Des Moines; three brothers, Earl Sorenson of Cainsville, Melvin Sorenson of and Alvin Sorenson of Inany, dianola; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church. Edna Darlene Summers, 64, of 2038 Walnut St. died of a heart ailment Saturday at Lucas County Health Center in Chariton. Graveside services have been held. A previous obituary should have stated that two of Mrs.

Summers' brothers, Bernard Carnes and Raymond Carnes, are residents of Glendale, Ariz. Also, three sons were omitted. They are Robert Perkins, Rick Raines and Rodney McPherson, all of Ottumwa. Filomena R. Berardi, 80, of Heri- tage Manor Care Center, 5608 S.W.
