He served as an intelligence and liaison officer at the U.S.

Embassy in Cairo while Egypt was under attack from the Axis forces in World War II. In the years after the war, Mr. Hare served as U.S. ambassador in a series of Middle East countries: Saudi Arabia from 1950 to 1953; Lebanon from 1953 to 1954; Egypt from 1956 to 1960; and Turkey from 1961 to 1965. He also was director general of the Foreign Service from 1954 to 1956 and deputy under secretary for political affairs from 1960 to 1961.

Mr. Hare retired from the State Department in 1966 and became president of the Middle East Institute in Washington from then until 1969. He is survived by two sons, Raymond Jr. and Paul, both of Washington; a sister, Ethel Lien of Sarasota, and six grandchildren. Paul Hare is a former ambassador to Zambia who most recently served as a special representative at Angolan peace talks.

Buckmann was born in Boy-den and lived in Des Moines 58 years before moving to Minnesota in 1990. She was formerly a secretary at the Des Moines Children's Home and was past president of the Ding Darling chapter Izaak Walton League. The death was ruled a suicide.

He had been a veteran of the military. Surviving are his wife, Chris; a daughter, Sandra Finnell of Des Moines; three stepdaughters, Sherri Worley of Springfield, and Kim Anderson and Janelle Ballard, both of Des Moines; four stepsons, Mark Lancaster of Wyoming and Kenny Grylls, Bryan Grylls and Shayne Grylls, all of Des Moines; two sisters, Doris Johnston of Des Moines and Mary Pothoven of Pella; a brother, Donald of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and 20 step-grandchildren. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Merrill Streeter, 57, of Indianola died of a respiratory ailment Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Services will be at 1 1 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Indianola IOOF Cemetery. Mr. Streeter was born near New Virginia and moved to Indianola in 1955.

He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a veteran of the Army. Surviving are his wife, Mary; two sons, Michael of Des Moines and Scott of Indianola; his mother, Olive Bullington of Indianola; two sisters, Geraldine Barker of Indianola and Linda Miller of Boone; five stepsisters, Martha Richards of Hartford, Mildred Richardson of Nebraska and Ellen Lee Dickinson, Jane Lovell and Florence Davison, all of Des Moines; two brothers, Virgil of Knoxville and Lyle of Fort Worth, Texas; a stepbrother, Jim Bullington of Hartford; and a grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or the American Cancer Society research fund. Peterson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Gladys M. Dapolonia, 86, of Urbandale Health Care Center, 4614 N.W. 84th died of a heart ailment there Friday. Services will be at 1 1 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Mrs. Dapolonia, a homemaker, lived in Des Moines all her life and was a member of St. Augustin's Catholic Church. A sister, Katherine Manning Morgan of Wichita, survives. Friends may call after 4 p.m.

Taylor, 76, of Sun City, died Feb. 4 at Boswell Hospital there of complications of pneumonia.

Among survivors are her husband, Richard; a daughter, Linda Daughen-baugh, and two sons, William Robertson and Ricky Robertson, all of Des Moines; a sister, Mary Rude of Ankeny; a brother, George Peterson of Carlisle; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Beach, 68, of Ames died Wednesday at Mary Greeley Medical Center of complications following a stroke. Mrs. Beach lived in Ames all her life and retired after 30 years as an inspector at Bourns Inc.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Lande of Huxley and Cheryl Thompson of Ames; her mother, Ber-nice Morris of Kelley; a sister, Louise Mattingly of Huxley; a brother, Hugh Morris of Altoona; and five grandchildren. Hare, who attended high school and college in Iowa and went on to serve as ambassador to fotfr nations and as assistant secretary of state, died of pneumo-niaWednesday at his home in Washington, D.C. He was 92. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Joseph Gawler's and Sons Funeral Home in Wash Hare Grinnell grad ington. Born in West Virginia, Mr.

Hare attended high school at Manchester, la. He graduated from Grinnell College in 1924, then dived into life in exotic locales. When he finally returned to his alma mater to give a speech, 33 years had passed. Grinnell presented him with an honorary doctor of laws degree at his 1957 visit. Mr.

Hare taught at a college in Is- Hazel A. Wessels, 91, of Scottish Rite Park, 2909 Woodland died of a heart ailment Thursday at i home. Services 4 will be at 11 a.m. today at Dunn's Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m.

at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Mrs. Wessels was born in Union County and moved to Des Moines 10 years ago after living in Missouri and California. She was a homemaker and member of Windsor Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Ber-ta Langfitt of Las Vegas, and Betty Estell of West Des Moines; a son, Charles of Grass Valley, two brothers, Wayne Bowers of Mesa, and Orvin Bowers of Creston; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church. Margaret Teresa Ripperger, 93, of Perry died of cancer Friday at her daughter's home there. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St.

Patrick Catholic Church in Perry, of which she was a member. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Rosemount Cemetery in Warren County. Mrs. Ripperger, a former waitress, was born in Warren County and moved to Perry in 1943.

She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was a sales representative for Avon products and Farm Journal magazine and had been a member of First Lutheran Church, Jasper County Senior Citizens and Salvation Army Golden Agers. Surviving are a son, Dean Merkel of Independence, a daughter, Corrine Dolder of Newton; a brother, Dick Glanville of Banning, three sisters, Byrde Nelson of Seattle, Doris Odegard of San Bernardino, and Wilda Adair of Brain-erd, six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Stacey Goben, 24, of Orlando, died of Hodgkin's disease Wednesday at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carlisle Christian Church, with burial Tuesday in Davis City Cemetery. Miss Goben was born in Des Moines and moved to Florida from Carlisle 10 years ago. She was a student at the University of Central Florida. Surviving are her parents, Al and Sharon Goben of Orlando; and her grandmothers, Hazel Ventling of Orlando and Pearl Goben of Reeds Spring, Mo.
