I By MELINDAVOSS RmiistkhStakkWritkr Jim Vogelaar, 51, a former Des Moines radio broadcaster, died Wednesday of emphysema at a Kansas City, hospital. "KIOA was a Top 40 station and news was not always a priority, but Jim didn't take it any less lightly. He always would fight for more dollars." Summitt added, "He never was one for fame and glory, but he used to donate a lot of time to help with fund-raisers." Mr. Vogelaar was also known for a wild sense of humor, Summitt said.

"I was the young, green guy. He'd light my news copy on fire while I was reading it, or he would pour coffee on me. In radio, we were infamous for practical jokes," he said. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Gashland Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo.
