Orf served churches in Etna, the First Methodist Church in Audubon, the First Methodist Church in Carroll, and was founding pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church in Des Moines.

After his retirement, he served several other Des Moines area churches. He moved to Park Rapids in 1968. Survivors include his wife, Ella; a daughter, Louise Richardson of Park Rapids; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
