C. McDaniel, E. T. Carson, George Burris, John Bushong, Frank Wilson, C. F.

Blackwell, and A. D. Wofford, complimented Mrs. C. E.

Reed, the former Alma Hesselltine of Freeport, with a miscellaneous shower, Saturday afternoon, Feb- 20, at the home of Mrs. R. T. Towery in Sinton, Texas. In the receiving line with Mrs.

Towery were the bride, her mother, Mrs. J. D. Hesseltine, and the bride's sister, Mrs. Bert Powell of Freeport.

From two until five o'clock, thirty-five guests were registered in the bride's book, which was presided over by Mrs. Blackwell. Mrs. Carson displayed the many lovely gifts. Early spring blossoms were placed about the rooms, with the Valentine motif featured in the centerpiece, pastel sweetpeas in a crystal bowl, flaked by matching crystal lovebords, on the refreshment table.

Misses Mary Wilson' and Susan Hill alternated with the bride's sister-in-law, Mrs. Albert Hassel- and Miss Matty Jo Giles at the lace-laid table where angel cake squares, adorned with tiny red hearts, and coffee were served. Mrs. McDaniel, Mrs. Bushsong, and Mrs.

Burris assisted in the dining room. The bride was a member of the senior class in the Sinton high school, before her marriage during the Christmas holidays. The groom is an employee of the Ethel-Dow Chemical Company in They reside in Freeport. Freeport. YWCA MEETS AT McFARLANE HOME THURSDAY EVENING Members of the Y.

W. C. A Council met Thursday, January, 18, for their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. G. P.

McFarlane. Mrs. McFarlane and Mrs. Percy Beacroft were joint hostesses. Twelve members and one visitor were present.

At the business meeting reports were given on the Business and Professional Girls' club which being organized, and "the program for the Girl -Reserves. Mesdames Lloyd Pessarra and Percy '-Beacroft were chosen to at- tetnd the YWCA meeting at the Administration building in Houston Tuesday. The hostesses served refreshments of cherry pie, ice cream, and coffee. CHURCH OF CHRIST SUNDAY SCHOOL GIVES PARTY FRI. The Sunday School department of the Church of Christ entertained Friday evening, February 19, with an informal party at the Freeport Community House.

About six- ly guests were present. All the games that were played, were played for points, the one having the most points at the end of the evening, won the prize. Games 'played were Musix, Fruit Basket Turnover, Dart Boards, Bean Boards, Apple Catching, and Ringer Games. A fortune teller told fortunes and read palms, for those not participating. The climax in the game playing, came when all joined in a scavenger hunt.

Rogers, and Horace Lambert, minister, played officials and refereed the games. Dickey Kinney won a Mickey Mouse Trapeze artist for high scoie. Refreshments of sandwiches, potato chips, cookies and punch were served by Mesdames Earl Breiner, B. H. Rogers, Joseph Hampton, Kinney, R.

D. Birdwell, Lewis Sellers, Horace Lambert, and Miss Cave. MRS. V. PESSARRA GIVES RUMMY AND BRIDGE PARTY FRI.

Mrs. C. Victor Pessarra entertained Friday evening at her home on First street, to two tables of bridge and one of rummy. Floral decoration in the living rcom was a low bowl of peach gladioli on an end table. High score at brige was won by Miss Edith Tobey, the rummy prize by Mrs.

Bill Vandraiss and cut prize by Mrs. J. A. Moore. The hostess served hot apple pie and coffee to Mesdames J.

L. Williams, R. W. Bookman, C. A.

i The annual recognition ceremony for new members was held Thursday afternoon, February 18, in the high school auditorium by the Freeport high school Girl Reserves. New members to be recognized and members' of the retiring cabinet were on the stage. Miss Leola Girouard, president of the organization, made the welcoming address to new members, followed by a candle service in which she placed the blue tie about each new member's neck, following, each was presented with a lighted candle by Laurine Jensen, secretary the retiring cabinet members. Miss Girouard then introduced members of the new cabinet to Girl Reserves and the audience. She also gave the Girl Reserves Cods, Purpose, and Slogan.

The singing of "Follow the Gleam" concluded the program. Below is the code, purpose and slogan: "As a Girl Reserve I will try to in Manner. in Judgment. for Service. to Friends.

The program will include various entertainments to delight a discriminating audience, ranging from stirring songs of opera to whistle- able tunes of light opera and musical comedy, solos, ensembles, sparkling, piano interludes, comedy and drama. Proceeds of the affair will benefit the student council Wright, and Billie Greer. -O- BAPTIST MEN HAVE CHICKEN BARBECUE AT CHURCH FRIDAY The men's Brotherhood of the First Baptist Church met in the recreation room qf the church on Friday evening, February 19, for a barbecued chicken supper.

About forty were present, including members from Angleton, Sweeny, West Columbia, Danbury, Clute, Oyster Creek, Velasco, and Freeport. Bro. A. D. Foreman of Houston, was the principal speaker for the evening.

He chose for his subject, "Men's Place in the Work of the Kingdom." MISSIONARY FROM CHINA IS SPEAKER AT BANQUET FRI. Friday evening, February 12 about 100 Young People of the Baptist church were honored with a banquet in the recreation hall of the church. Miss Pearl Johnson, Baptist missionary from China was the speaker. "Chinese People in This Critical Time" was the sub- ect of her address which she em- hasized with exhibits of tiny iocs, idols, chopsticks and other lings pertaining to the Chinese. her talk she told of how much more the Chinese were turning to Christ during these war years.

The Valentine theme was carried ut in decorations. MRS. J. MARSHALL HAS BRIDGE CLUB TUESDAY 'EVENING Mrs. Jack Marshall entertained the Tuesday night bridge club at hor home in Brazoria this week with a dinner-bridge.

Violets formed the centerpiece for the table as well as decorations for the living room. Miss Marguerite Brummett won high score, Mrs. J. W. Ramsey, second high, and Mrs.

W. H. Drushell who was guest, was presented with the guest prize. Those present were Mesdames Charles Mary Vykoukal, G. N.

J. TURNER Mrs. Jack Turner entertained members of her bride club at her Wednesday evening, using George Washington theme in refreshments and decorations. Guess were Mrs. Ivan Oden and Misses Charlie Rogers and Opal Hickman.

High score for club members was won by Mrs. Claude Stringer. Miss Charlie Rogers won guest high. Refreshments of coffee, cake, and ice cream frozen in red and white layers to represent stripes were served to the above named guests and Mesdames C. S.
