Garrison. Miss Janet Millen of Wakeeney eO a fire Jn a temporiity silo at the E. W. Runft farm three miles suothwest of Belleville evening. Some 4,200 threatened by the smoke from the fire, but the wind which was bloving southeast away from the bii'ds never, changed direction.

The silo contained a mixture of firebush and oats, a cattle feed. Mr. Runft, who had fallen from a cobey wagon a few days before the fire and broken a rib, was reported iip and around Tuesday. Pbote met at the home of Mrs. James T.

Hurley for the November 12 meeting. Current events were given for the roll call. Mrs. Howard Millen presided at the business meeting at which time plans were made to repaint the Nativity Scene, sponsored a year ago. They also voted to bake cookies for Audrey's Rest home and will make favors for the trays in observance of Thanksgiving.

This has beeri a feature for the observance of the special days of the unit the past year. Also the Republic Homemakers bake individual birthday cakes for each occupant as one of the community improvement projects. The lesson on Civil Defense was presented by Mrs. Glenn Hofts which included much timely information for every mdividual. Hugo Peters was hostess November 5, to Belleville Victory Home Demonstration unit with 16 members present. Roll Call was with current events on foreign countries. President, Mrs. Charles Hirmon displayed the gold seal won by the unit for standard of excellence on the past years work. A schedule of the coming years work was discussed.

Mrs. Julius Hess gave the lesson on civil defense. A committee was chosen for the Christmas to be given at the Rest Homes in Belleville. Mrs. Peters and her co-hostess, Mrs.

Don Anderson served lunch at the close of the meeting. Christmas party December 4 will be at the A. L. Rizek home. Friendly Neighbors H.D.U.

Friendly Neighbors H. D. U. Unit met at the home of Mrs. Charley Jones; The meeting was called to order by Mrs.

C. B. Currance vice-president. Roll call was answered by Current Events of Foreign countries. The second part of the ironing lesson was given by Mrs.

Jones. Recreation was led by Mrs. John Skelton. The hostess- served lunch to eight members. Mrs.
