Born Nov. 30, 1913, in DeKalb, he was the son of John T. and Jayne T. (White) Marshall. He married Lucille Jeanette Pyper on Oct.

2, 1937. Harold was the owner of the Koffee Kup in DeKalb, worked at Northern Illinois University and was the president of the local American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, then finished his working career as the head of the Secretary of State Driver's License Bureau until 1982, when he retired. He was an avid horseback rider, belonging to area horse clubs including the Bit Spur and Circle K-D clubs. He spent many hours at the Knights of Columbus over the years: He was a fourth-degree Knight and served as the Grand Knight in 1980-81. Harold also was a member of the Eagles, DeKalb and Sycamore Elks Club and was a leader for Commodities Local Grain Bids, 9:30 a.m.

MARGARET VAN OSTRAND Margaret Van Ostrand, 88, of Texas and formerly of Sycamore, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Life Care Center in Haltom City, Texas. Born March 24, 1915, in Hampton, she was the daughter of Ernst and Augusta (Schultz) Matthes. She married Arthur H. Van Ostrand on Jan.

RINEHART Ellen J. Rinehart, 85, of Rockford, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at home in the loving presence of her family. Born Sept. 2, 1918, in Lee, she was the daughter of Seward Oscar and Mary Ellen (Vallem) Sanderson.

She married William Lowell Rinehart of Rochelle on Jan. 17, 1939; he preceded her in death on May 19, 1979. She lived in DeKalb: and worked at DeKalb Hospital until moving to Rockford in 1961: In Rockford, she worked at Alma Nelson Manor in the dietary department for 2 22 years. She was the youngest of 12 children and the only one of them to be born at a hospital. She enjoyed her family and music.

She often would entertain residents at Alma Nelson by playing the piano or yodeling, but her family was the most important. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen VallemBabcock of Rockford; three grandchildren, Tamara Jewelle (Chad) Maurer of Rockton, Daniel Lowell (Twyla) Babcock of Utah and Teresa Marie Agendas DeKalb School Board will meet at 6 p.m. today in the District 428 Education Center, 901 S.
