and Mrs. Harold Milbrath. Born Sept. 12, 1899, in Sugar Creek Township, the son of William and Emma Schoenbeck Kobelman, he was a life member of, First Lutheran Church. He never married.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Milbrath and Mrs. Norris Smith, both of Elkhorn; and a niece, Mrs. Carol Siddons, Lauderdale Lake. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Wednesday in First Lutheran Church, the Rev. Herbert Lau officiating, with burial in Hazel Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Wolf Funeral Home and at the church from noon until time of sernce Wednesday. MILTON John Frederick Whitford, 87, longtime educator and professor of education at Milton College from 1923-30, and later director of public relations of the college, 1945-52, died early yesterday morning in Mercy Hospital after a brief iUness.

Born Jan. 18, 1878, in Berlin, N. thejfon Cji; John and Mary Francis Sumnierbell Whitford, he attended Alfred (N.Y.) University and graduated in 1903 from Milton College with a 6.S. degree. He later graduated from a special training course for YMCA personnel at the University of Wisconsin during World War I.

As an educator and school administrator he was principal at Williams Bay from 1903-06, and at old Milton High School from 1907-13. He served 20 years in the New York school system before beconung an instructor at Milton College in 1923. In 1956 Mr. Whitford was named recipient of the Pillar of Milton award by the Milton College Alumni Association. Active in Church Active in the educational programs of the Seventh Day Baptist Church, he was president of the congregation, superintendent of its Sabbath school and a deacon for several years.

Affiliated with the lOOF Lodge many years, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge 161 and of many community and civic organizations. Mr. Whitford -was an authority on the life of Abraham Lin coin and had done extensive research on his lifelong hobby of Lincoln, collecting many rare documents and pictures. The Janesville Gazette has ubllshed many articles written Mr. Whitford about the life of Lincoln, the most recent on Aue.

18. His marriage to Leo Coon of Milton was on Sept. 2, 1903, and they marked their 50th sary in 1953. She died Sept. 23 1957.

On Nov. 2, 1958, he mar ried Mizpah Bennett, a teacher in Janesville schools for many years. Survivors include his wife; one dauKhter, Major Geraldhie Whitford, a member of the USA Nurses Corps at Ft. Huachuca two brothers, William G. of Orchard Park.

Haney, 736 N. Garfield were held this morning in Trinity Episcopal Church, the solemn requiem Mass being read by the Rev. Robert Lewis, Trinity curate, assisted by the Rev. Ronald Ortmayer, pastor. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lester Robinson, Donald W. Snyder, Sheriff Russell Hegge, Floyd Molden, Brig. Gen. Howard E. Kessinger and Perry O'Brien.

Mrs. Arthur Ricard Services for Mrs. Arthur Ricard, 1309 S. Pearl were held Saturday afternoon, the Rev. James Rankin, First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elmer Schieve, James Nagler, Gene Disrud, Frank Probst, Floyd Benzie and Clayton Weaver. Walter J. Zahn BELOIT-Walter John Zahn, 69, 1543 Farwell retired Fairbanks, Morse Co. employe and member of its Quarter Century Club, died Saturday in his home after an illness.

Born Nov. 27, 1896. in McGregor, Iowa, the son of Peter and Mary Walter Zahn, he married Alice Alwin of Janesville April 3, 1937, in Rockford. He was a member of Gridley Congregational Church, UCC. Surviving are his wife; a son, Roland, of Deerfield, a daughter, Mrs.

Roland Roark, Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Mmes. Carl MiUer, Harry Miller and Ben Schultz, all of McGregor. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Rosman-Uehling Kinzer central chapel with burial in Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 7 to 9 tonight.

Jacob Coash FORT ATKINSON -Jacob Coash, 76, Portage, former em ploye of a Fort Atkinson paint store who retired to Portage 11 years ago, died Saturday after a long illness. Surviving are his wife, Pauine; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Hathaway, Chicago Heights, 111. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Port Funeral Home, Portage, where friends may call after 3 p.m.

3, 1924 at Harrison, the son of the late EUery and Elsie Reimer Holcomb, he married Shirley Eustice in Clinton July 8,1959. He was a member of the Clinton Methodist Church and a veteran of service In Korea with the Armed Forces In 1949. Surviving are his wife; two Joseph L. Sherman WHITEWATER Joseph L. Sherman, 65, a farmer east of Whitewater since 1932, died Sat urday in Fort Atkinson Memori' al Hospital after a one-month illness.

Born July 12,1900, in Winsted, the son of Joseph B. and Roselda Hessler Sherman, he married Clara A. Riemer in Mil waukee Dec. 24, 1925. They resided there seven years before moving to their farm here.

Surviving are his wife; a son Jerome, of Tomahawk; five grandchildren; a brother, ton, of Milwaukee; and three sisters, Mmes. Louise Wileman Dousman, Anna Rogers and Delphine Riemelt, both of Milwaukee. Services will be at 2 p.m. to morrow in theSklndingsrude and Lein Funeral Home, the Rev. James Oliver officiating, with burial at 11 a.m.

W. Adams JEFFERSON R. W. (Red) Adams, 45, 237 E. Racine a resident of Jefferson 20 years and operator of Bender's Hotel, died at 6:15 p.m.

Saturday in Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital where he was admitted after suffering a stroke Friday. Born April 26, 1930 in Waukesha, the son of Charles and Hannah Robert Adams, he served in World War II as a M-Sgt. in the Army Air Force from December 1941 to January 1946. He was a member of the China- Burma-India Veterans Association, VFW, and Rinehard-Windl American Legion Post. He married Marian Bender In Jefferson March 2, 1946.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Steven, Sawyer AFB, Marquette, and Chris, at home; three sisters, Mmes. Alois Kennedy, Waukesha, Wilbur Keyes, Franklin Park, 111., and Robert Ziegler, Jefferson; and four brothers, Robert, David and all of Waukesha, and Francis, of Chicago. One brother and his parents predeceased him. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Minshall Funeral Home, the Rev.

Michael Carroll ALBANY-Mrs. Michael Carroll, 89, the former Alice Broderick. died this morning In the Monroe Manor nursing home where she had resided one month. Survivors mclude a son, Harry, of Albany; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. ftjpy Graves, Albany, and Miss Catherine Broderick, Chicago; and a brother, William Broderick, Monroe.

The body is at the Sharer Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements. Mrs. Frank Albright ALBANY Mrs. Frank Albright, 73, died last night in her farm home west of Albany. She had been in ill health since undergoing surgery earlier this year.

The former Hulda Burri was bom May 12, 1892 in Monroe and married Jan. 28, 1915 to FVank Albright. They had resided on their farm since their marriage. Surviving are her husband; a son, Russell, on the home farm; three grandchildren: and two brothers, Al Burri, Monroe, and William, of Fennimore. Tlie body is at the Sharer Funeral Home where tentative arrangements are for funeral services Wednesday.

Pedestrian Hit by Taxicab FORT ATKINSOrj-A record city budget allocating $907,412.67 for expenditures in 1966 comes under public scrutiny Tuesday night when the city council will hold a public hearing. The hearing will be part of the regular council meeting beginning at 7:30 In the municipal building's council room. If approved In its present proposed form, the budget would set a tax rate of $2,496 per $1,000 assessed valuation. Added to school, county and state rates already determined, this wouW make a total rate of $57 tier $1,000 for every Fort Atkins'on taxpayer. The council will also consider a myriad of other items on the agenda, including proposed an nexation of Lake View Cemetery now iust outside the city's south- em boundaries on Highway 26.

Another subject will be a petition from Gai-y H. Michels to rezone residential lots east of Jefferson Street between Mar tin and White streets for apart ment use. The proposed budget would set up three new city posts, those of recreation director, public works director-building inspector and tax assessor. Other items also provide for a new city garage and 4 per cent expense increases in all departments. The council will also receive a report from the city board of appeals concerning an application of T.

W. Tuttle to permit Modem Machine and Tool Inc. to use a building at 517 Oak St. An offer from excavating contractor James E. Bowler to purchase the city's old gravel pit west of Poplar Point will be considered.

First National Bank will ask for permission to provide a ing lot driveway onto Main Street north of the bank building on Rock River. A lease of Montgomery Ward Department Store, located In the builduig on the vehicles and other headlights were shining toward him. Milwaukee Janes ville. The Walker car burst into flames, with Walker leaping to safety unharmed. "The car just blew up in one mass of flame," Capt. George Geske said. "The only door on the car that was not jammed shut was the driver's door.

It was a miracle he got out." Injured in the second crash were Anderson, treated and released at Mercy Hospital for left side and mouth injuries; Kuha back pains, and Flossie Kuha neck pains, both being exandned and released at the hospital. Anderson was charged with reckless driving. Nelson's car was the only one not heavily damaged, officers reported. Services for Foss will be held at 1 :30 p.m. Tuesday In the Chil son Funeral Home.
