A series of group meetings were held iii the Pelican School during the afternoon.

One of these discussion groups, "Inf6rming the Public ovi the Job of the Schools," was led by Principal Paul Alfonsi of Minocqua. The group agreed that the school's responsibility for the conduct of children must of necessity stop after school hours. But it also was agreed that in small towns the school does have an "interest" in the welfare of its pupils and that the school and the parents should seek closer cooperation in the after-school activities of young people. Two Sentenced in Vitas Circuit Court brought up." School district reorganization has been a'part of, the county forvthe past 25 years, Reed added. During this period, there have been 16 reorganizations of school districts in the county, and he pointed out that seven towns surrounding Rhine- now are engaged in a reorganization study.

"Oneida County is being fairly foresighted in the matter of school buildings," Reed "Arbor Vitae-Woodruff has added sufficient building space for another few years. Pelican has built sufficiently for time being. Pine Lake has built all it can until there is more assessed valuation some bonds are paid off. They were Grafton Berry, Oneida County chairman for the promotional group; Mrs. Edna G. Straub, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, and James Zambon, representing the Better Resorts Association. Some other residents have indicated they may be able to attend part of the sessions today. A plan for developing the Headwaters Country Parkways was presented this morning to Chamber of Commerce and resort association representatives from all parts of northcentral Wisconsin.

One of the highlights of this session was an elaborate display of photographs and colored slides to be used in the promotional program: These pictures 'have been drawn from newspaper files, private collections and commercial studios. The session on the Parkways will be pointed toward the completion of necessary development details in the plan. The recently completed economic base study of the Headwaters Country will be given the headline spot in the afternoon. Survey results call for an all out industrial development program. Plans are well under way for such a program.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says he spends 125 days a year away from his job. That is more than a third of a year and instead of spending it on a hammock or by the fire, he is busy making or fixing things around "the house.

According to one of the nation's leading building materials supply magazines, he and his wife spent $3Vfe billion last year on building material, paint and tools. That's an average of $75 for every household in the United There in a nutshell is the measure of today's "do-it-yourself" mcvement, one of the great business and social phenomenas of the sost war years. Sociologists, businessmen and editors, all have score of answers ready to explain' why Mr. -and Mrs. America are spending so much time in productive work on their homes, their gardens and in their workshops.

All Income Panels. Mere leisure, a desire to get out from under the tensions of the atomic age, increasing mechanization and high pressure on the job all these are said to be contributing factors. But underlying this is pride of ownership in the home. And in the past 50 years, the 'census shows, the per cent of dwellings actually owned by the people who live in them has jumped from 37 to 53 per cent. The "do-it-yourself urge" applies through all income groups, from the highly paid New York apartment dweller with a table-saw stashed away in his closet to the suburban home-owner with a completely equipped workshop in his basement.

Even bank presidents and lawyers can point with pride to the things they make at home. But it takes more than an urge. Without the inventive genius of American industry, Mr. and Mrs. America would still be working with primitive tools and methods.

Now easy-to-use building materials like big panels of plywood that speed building, new floor coverings like asphalt tile that go down quickly, and new paints like those that dry in an hour are typical of the parade of products that make it possible for the average man to do his own work. All Purpose Panels. Last year, lumber dealers sold about 300 million square feet of plywood over the counter to home-owners and small buyers for everything from a new subfloor in kitchen or a newly paneled attic to a fence in the back yard or a lightweight car-top skiff. No other building material fits so many around-the-house jobs or home-shop projects! One major tool manufacturer says more than 40 per cent of his sales are to home-owners. In 1942, the paint industry estimated that 90 per cent of its materials went to professionals.

Today, amateurs buy 75 per cent of all paint sold and professionals pick up only 25 per cent. I According to many leaders in the building materials and tool field, this is only a beginning. Manufacturers today are making it easy for home-owners to do their own work with complete step-by-step instructions to the tyro on what, where and how to use their products. Easy-tb-follow plans for plywood built-in storage units, indoor and outdoor furniture, boats and shop projects published by the plywood manufacturers and available at all retail lumber dealers, are typical cf what industry is doing to help Rugged Simplicity Makes Room for Man of the House Comfort and masculine atmos- phere, cover walls and floor cork. The tiles are made from natural cork and thus an added value as insulation agnin- st both noise and heat. Colors For DO-IT-YOURSELF man spends a third of a year away from h'is factory, and'his office. Experts'say this leisure time is reason for tremendous spread of do-it-yourself building. Easy-to-use materials like fir plywood, other new products, project plan folders have also stimulated more home projects. Old Information Booth Moved Out The old Chamber of Commerce information booth on the north end of the City Hall triangle has disappeared as a downtown landmark.

Given to the Better Resorts Association when it built its new information building on the south end of the triangle, the old log-sided building was removed from the City Hall site Friday by the purchaser, George Lassig. It was used early this summer before the new -building was ready for occupancy. How should paint be mixed for use in a spray gun? A Paint for a spray gun should be thinner than paint to be ap plied by brush.

Generally, paint that has the consistency of thin oil is about right for a gun. Uniform consistency is important, too. Unmixed pigment will stick in a fine nozzle tip. After thorough stirring, continue the mixing process by pouring the paint back and forth from one can to another. I heat my house with gas and, consequently, my chimney doesn't shoot out sparks.

Is fire- resistant roofing still necessary for safety? A Yes. Sparks from outside sources are as a threat as ever. Brush fires and bonfires shoot 'tip sparks which can be carried long distances by the wind. Fire- resistant shingles are suggested for protection from the flying-spark hazard. How can calcimine be removed? A Calcimine will wash off if warm water is used.

A weak solution of household ammonia usually will make the job 'go faster. On particularly stubborn spots, scrub with a wire brush. The electrical circuits in my are of 15-ampere capacity. For example, a 660-watt appliance on a 110-volt circuit will use amperes.

A 100- watt bulb wil consume slightly less than. 1. ampere. For a 15-ampere circuit, total ampere-consumption can't be more than 15. and to remove the sleeping-room atmosphere, in case it must do double-duty both as study and bedroom, a bed without head or footboard should be used.
