Tuesday, February 4,1986 Uklah Daily Journal, Ukiah, Manson refused parole SAN OUENTIN, Calif. (UPI) Parole for Charles Manson was turned down by a state board today after the killer told its members to "stick it" because he was his own god and government and that if he were released he would likely go to Libya or Iran. "I'd like to see the Ayatollah," Manson said. "And I'd like to go to France because there's someone there I'm upset with." The convicted mastermind of a bloody series of Hollywood murders told the parole board he was rich in resources "within my heart." Manson, 51, has been turned down five times previously by parole authorities. A prosecutor called him "one of the most dangerous men" in the nation.

At the opening of his hearing at San Quentin, he listened to a lengthy report on his life and troubles with the law beginning at the age of 8. The report said his mental condition has improved. He is now bright and "not out of touch with reality" as previous reports had him. Then he was asked what his plans were. "I'm home.

Can't you understand? This is where I've been most of my life. It's your judgment I'm living by. It's not mine." "What.if you were free?" one of the board members asked. "I would try to stop the rain forests from being cut down. I might go to Libya.

I'd like to see the Ayatollah. And I'd like to go to France because there's someone there I'm upset with." A board member asked how he could do all these things. "Are you rich?" "I'm a con man, I don't need money," Manson replied. "Sure I'm rich. I've got resources and they're all within my heart." Manson is serving a life term for being the mastermind of the 1969 Tate-LaBianca cult murders.

He failed to turn up for his last scheduled hearing in 1982. Manson and four of his "faiftily" were sentenced to death for ing seven people, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate, in a two-day bloody orgy in the Los Angeles area. They escaped the gas chamber when the California Supreme Court overturned the death penalty in 1972. At the root of their cult was the belief in "helter skelter," the notion that blacks would rise up and kill all whites except those who hide in the desert. The chosen few to prevail were called "the family." It was in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco in 1967 that the "Manson family" was born.

Stephen Kay, a member of the prosecution team in the trial, said the parole board should reject Manson's request for freedom. NOW HEAR THIS! The Best Way To Hide A Hearing Problem Myles Reisman Ca. Israel intercepts Libyan jet JERUSALEM (UPI) Israeli warplanes intercepted a private jet bound from Libya to Syria with nine Syrian politicians aboard today and forced it to land in Israel, military authorities said. Israeli army radio said the plane left five hours later with everyone on board. The Israeli warplanes intercepted the American-made Gulfstream executive jet in international airspace east of Cyprus in the belief that "persons involved in planning an attack against Israel" were aboard, the spokesman said. Military sources in Jerusalem said the plane, diverted to a military airbase in northern Israel, had been carrying three crew members and nine passengers, all of them "Syrian politicians." The Israeli government would not immediately confirm the army radio report announcing the release of the plane, broadcast at about 6:40 p.m. (11:40 a.m.

EST). The plane was expected to resume its flight to Damascus, the Syrian capital, where Foreign Minister Farouk al Sharaa reportedly complained to ambassadors representing five U.N. Security Council members that the seizure violated international law. "I ask you to inform the head and members of the United Nations about this act which is considered an obvious violation of international law and agreements guaranteeing the freedom and safety of air navigation," al Sharaa said in a statement from the Syrian capital. The Israeli army radio report said the aircraft, carrying all 12 people who were aboard when it was captured, was allowed to leave an air base in northern Israel after "an examination of the passengers and the plane was carried out."
