'fv Mofr- t»lan Peppy __, The American Auxiliary met Monday evening with Adah Hardgrove presiding. Vocal numbers were given by John Clark and Barbara Kuchen- reuther. Reports were given on the eighth district spring conference held at Garner, May 7. Lillie Foth was honored by being elected to the district secretary- treasurer office. Phyllis Carr's junior girl scouts received a check for the best nut cups displayed at the conference. Poppy sales will be held May 24 during the afternoon and evening. Fern Peterson, Kossuth County president of Swea City. gave an interesting talk on the history of the poppy and the origin. Ann Clark's division served the lunch. Four Corners Club The Four Corners Mothers and Daughters club met Thursday, May 9, with Mrs Linda Kirsch who was assisted by Clara Drayton. Twenty members and two guests were present. Roll call was answered by "A Joke on Mother." Guest speaker was Mrs Hamstrect of Burt who gave a talk on retarded children. The next meeting will' be held June 13 with Ruth Arend assisted by Mrs Merlin Walker and Mrs Vernon Walker. This meeting will be a tea for the outgoing officers. Mrs Cecil Bjustrom will be in charge of the program. At this time the identify of the secret sisters will be revealed. Communion Dinner Mr and Mrs Oswald Thilges ol Algona had a buffet dinner Sunday in honor of Gary Thilges who- had his first Holy Communion among 77 others at St. Cecelia's. Guests present were Mrs Kathering Thilges, Valeria and Walter of Algona, Doreen Thilges, Mrs Mary Dole, Mr and Mrs Elmer Dole, Mr and Mrs Ed Immerfall and son Craig of Irvington. Mr and Mrs Walter Mescher and family of Algona, Mr and Mrs Chester Harmon and family, and Mr and Mrs Charles Harmon of Algona, Mr and Mrs Clarence Green and family of Bancroft, and Mr and Mrs Harry Thilges of LuVerne. Scholarship Winner Robert Hardgrove, son of Mr and Mrs Russell Hardgrove is listed among the 156 students enrolled at the Iowa State College af. Ames who will receive scholarships. The amount of $198 will be given to the group in which Hardgrove is listed and comes from the Alumni Achievement Fund and the Merit Scholarship Fund. Communion Dinner Mr and Mrs Don McGuire entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of the first communion of their daughter Patricia at St. Cecelia, Catholic' church. Guesta were the respective parents, Mr and Mrs Mark McGuire and Mr and Mrs Peter Kayser of Bode and Mrs Julian Voigt. Si. Thomas Guild Members of St. Thomas Guild will meet Thursday afternoon in the social rooms of .the Episcopal church. Hostesses 'will be Mrs Mabel Tjaden and daughter Abbie Tjaden. Of Hone* the Degree of Honor lodge held its annual inspection Monday evening, May 6, in the Moose hall. State president organizer Rose Harvey of Cedar Rapids and State secretary Beulah Williams, of Red Oak, were present. The local officers performed the rituals for the initiation of two candidates. The drill team and glee club took part. Rose Smith is president of the chapter. Lunch was served at a table decorated with spring flowers. The out of town guests were presented with gifts from the chapter by Past President Golda Guderian. Rose Smith was winner of the door prize. The next meeting will be on May 20 at Rose Smith's and a pot-luck supper will be served at 6:30 o'clock. Hosts At Cards Mr and Mrs Herbert Weydert entertained at a card party Saturday evening. In attendance were Mr and Mrs Don Krause, Mr and Mrs James Potter, Mr and Mrs Dean Taylor, Mr and Mrs Rex Voyles and Mr and Mrs Nilton Will. High score prizes were won by Mrs Taylor and Mr Voyles. Travel prize was won by- Mrs Voyles. Cresco Club Met The Cresco Mother and Daughter Club met Wednesday, May 8. at the home of Mrs Clifford Riebhoff with Rose Potter assisting Roll call ; was answered by in members on My Favorite Flower. Mrs Cletus Elbert ' gave a very interesting talk on Disaster Organization and First Aid. Card Club Hostess Mrs Mike Wagner, was hostess to her card club members last week Wednesday. The club met this week with Mrs Leo Thilges. Hosts, Couples Club Mr and Mrs James Will entertained the members of their couples club Sunday evening. Attend Wedding Mr and Mrs Ed Hagg and daughter Dorothy attended the wedding Saturday at Belle Plain of Ellen Smith, classmate of Dorothy when they attended the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. LUVERNE NEWS Visiting their parents, Mr and Mrs Mike Hinz on Mother's Day were Mr and Mrs James Abel and Ross of Kasson, Minn., Mr Mrs Dan Palsic and Kelvin of Waterloo. Mr and Mrs Miko TTinz have- word that their son, Mr and Mrs Norman Hinz have bern transferred from Lakehurst, N. J. to a navy air base in Memphis. CANS ORANGE DRINK GRAPE DRINK PARKWAY'S Recipe of the week By Maty Lee Taylor Hot Bacon and Tomato Sandwiches 8 slices bacon 4 slices process American cheese, 3 x 4 x H-in. thick 3 /4 cup Pel Evaporated Milk 4 tomatoes 4 slices hot toast Cook bacon slowly until crisp. Take from skillet, drain on paper towels, and keep hot. Cut Cheese into Vz-in. squares. Put cheese into heavy 1-ort. saucepan with '/« cup milk. Stir over low heat until cheese is completely melted. Stir in V 2 cup milk a little at a lime, and heat until steaming hot, but do not boil. Cut each tomato crosswise into 3 slices and sprinkle with salt. Put toast on 4 serving plates. Arrange 3 tomato slices on'each slice of toast. Pour hoi cheese sauce over tomatoes. Arrange 2 crisp bacon slices on top of each sandwich. Makes 4 sandwiches.
