"VOLUME 25 BROOKSHIRErWALLER COUKTY, TEXAS, FRIDAY; NUMBER 36 Waller Gas Mrs. Jack Donald Heads WPA Sewing Room Work Mrs. Jach Donald was Tuesday appointed temporary supervisor of the WPA Sewing room which opened Wednesday morning in the Marshall building on Main street. Twelve workers were given jobs on the opening day and were notified that an increase from $21 to $26 per month was now the scale. A janitor has also been allowed the new project.

They will put in 130 hours monthly. Over $400 per month will be put into trade channels by the sewing employees and more are being considered for work. Local business men will take care of rental and other expenses while the government furnishes the payroll and cloth. The United Pipe Line Co. of Houston, is securing right of way for a gas pipe line to move gas from the local field and Satsunia and Fairbanks oil fields to the concern's gas distributing plant about 10 miles north of Clinton in northeast Harris county. The line, when completed, will be about 48 miles long and cost $800,000. Some of the gas will be used in Houston and the balance nelai and in operation in 90 to ISO days. Rice Harvesting Begins; Gins To Hum Next Week The first bale of cotton is expected to be ginned next week, approximately 15 days later than the 1937 crop.

Rioe farmers finding their crop maturing nicely, started harvesting this week. Government repeats indicate a cotton crop of 11,988,000 bales for 1938 compared with 18,946,000 ginned in 1937. Waller county ginned 6739 bales last year. The government average estimate of the district in which Waller is listed would place the county's crop at 6300 bales this year, but local observers estimate around 4500.
