(AP)-Tiny Bobby Isaac pushed his tomato-red Dodge Daytona at 159.277 miles an hour yesterday to capture the pole position for Sunday's $193,080 World 600 stock car race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 34-year-old Catawba, N.C. driver was the last of 20 qualifiers to test the IVi-mile track and he knocked Dodge teammate Bobby Allison of Hueytown, off the pole. Allison did a lap at 158.744 to give Dodge the year's hottest car command of the front row for Sunday's race, the longest stock event in the world. Fred Lorenzen made a strong bid in his return to racing, pushing a Dodge at 157.890 to place sixth among Wednesday's 12 qualifiers.

He will start in the third row, beside the year's top money winner, Pete Hamilton of Dedham, who has $81,590 by winning at Daytona and Talladega in his Plymouth. It was Lorenzen's first start since his retirement three years ago. Now 34, the handsome Elmhurst, 111., bachelor is a Dodge boy after his "first career" accounted for a stack of honors in Fords. Cale Yarborough did 158.436 in his smashed in Mercury Cyclone, the third quickest sprint on a hot, 80-degree afternoon. The Timmonsville, S.

star struck the wall in a morning practice run and qualified with both fenders on the right side showing deep dents. Yarborough still holds the Charlotte Motor Speedway qualifying record with a 162 -162 clocking prior to last year's National 500. Sitting beside Yarborough for the start of Sunday's 400-lapper will be David Pearson of Spartanburg, S. who clocked 158.436 in a Ford. Charlie Glotzbach's 157.599 in another Dodge earned him the inside spot on the fourth row of the two abreast lineup.

He zipped around at 157.228 in a Ford and settled for the fifth row beside Dodge man Buddy Baker of Charlotte. Baker ruined his Dodge Daytona in a Tuesday practice run when a blown engine spit oil on the rear tires and caused the 6-foot-5 driver to go into a furious spin. "We're trying to be consistent in our lap times," McCluskey said. "That's the secret of driving this race." McCluskey, who has driven in eight Memorial Day 500-mile races but never has finished well, qualified his car in the second row in last Saturday's first round of qualifying. His four-lap speed was 169.231 m.p.h.
