Catts, college man, large landowner and politician, reads like a romance, though there are -many parallel cases in the history of American, democracy. Governor1 Catts was 'born in 1863 oh Catts 1 plantation near Pleasant, Hill, and came of distinguished south; em blood.

He was named for Genferaj Albert Sidney Johnston. His father was a large landowner and captain in the Confederate army; while his mother was a relative of John C. Calhoun. He attended Howard College, where in 1881, he became a Brother 'Sigma Nu Iota Chapter No. He then attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute three years and finally the law school of Lebanon, -Tenn, for three years.

He obtained his degree from each of these three colleges. i prepared for the law, Brother Catts eafly decided to enter the ministry and became the pastor of the Baptist church in his own, home town for a few years. ie was then called to Ft.
