A. Allotment Is Approved Special to The Gazoue: 4 News has been received that a Rural Electrification allotment of $120,000 has been approved for Coffey county. The stun assures 112 miles of high line will be constructed. The high line will service approximately 198 farm homes. The annual meeting- of the Coffey County Rural Electrification Cooperative association will be held at I o'clock the afternoon of February for the election of officers and directors and other business.

Present directors of the association are J. J. Blrk, president; John Mozingo, vice president; Glen Rhoads, secretary; Wayne Payer, treasurer, nnd Fred Mcalrs. Ernest Rosslllon, Charles Jones and. Wayne White.

Aid Society Meets Special to The Gazette: Gridley, Feb. 2 The Prairie Chapel Aid society met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. George Errett, with 22 members and 13 guests present. The guests were Mes- darnes Art Daunum, Clarence Cokley, Everett Pinon, Lester Rhodes, George Saucier, Leonard Young, Ruben Young, John Young, Dan Young. Jack Williams, Harold Sauder, Herman Strahm, and Miss Martha Young.

Plans were made to hold a chicken supper at the Brrctt school the evening of February 21. During the afternoon a courtesy shower was given by Mrs. Roy Strahm. Mrs. Fred Jones entertained the Kensington club at her home Wednesday afternoon.

Twelve members were present and Mrs. L. W. Leplar and Mrs. Glen Kirkham were gue.st.s.

Mystery Fire Destroys School Valley School Costing: $10,000 Burns in Night Special to The Oazeite: Florence, Feb. 4 Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Spring Volley school building, four miles south of Florence, Monday night. one seemed to have noticed the blnse and the destruction was not discovered until about 5 o'clock Tuesday morning when Mrs. Ross White, who lives just west of the school, happened to glance in that direction to find only the chimney remaining of the two room building.

FIRE AFTER 1 O'CLOCK. Ralph Melrowsky, who lives a quarter of a mile west of the school nnd across the road, says he returned home from his work in Florence about 1 o'clock Tuesday morning and the building had not burned at that time. The building, a two room frame structure, was built 17 years ago at a cost of approximately $10,000. It had a basement and a furnace, but In late years the furnace had not been used. A coal stove was used for heat.

This is the third fire to occur In that neighborhood within the past two years. The other two fires resulted in the destruction of the Nora Sharrai house, in which the Carpenter family lived, and the house In which Bill Freeborn lived. USE ANOTHER BUILDING. Mrs. DsWeese was at home alone and the fire was well under way when she discovered it. It apparently had started around the chimney, and the attic was ablaze when discovered. There was no telephone in the house. Mrs, DeWeese's call brought neighbors to her help, Thomas Barr, C.

E. Key. and others. The Americus fire truck made the run but got there too late to save the house. A few pieces of furniture and a small roll of bedding was about all that was caved.

J. C. Rollins, one of the volunteer firemen, received severe cut on the back of his right hand from broken glass. He was taken to an Emporia hospital, where he received treatment. The house was owned by a Mr Moutrey, of Hamilton.

Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Johnson, of Osage City, were dinner guests at (he Parry-Wise home in lieosho Rapids Thursday.

Tag Sale To 2,175 Special to The Gazette: Council Grove, Feb. 4 At the close of business Wednesday'night 2,175 car tags had been sold here as compared with 2,386 on the smae date a year ago. However, about 50 car owners have deposited the price of their tag with the treasurer but the tags have noi been issued because the owners have lost their certificate of title, or have purchased a car and the title has not been transferred to them Last year 2,992 car tags were sold and it is expected that more will be issued in 1939.

About 800 owners will have to pay the 50-cent penalty. Elizabeth Crook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crook, underwent an operation Thursday at the University of Kansas hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Miss Crook's condition is reported satisfactory. Charles Crook accompanied his daughter to Kansas City and spent several 'days with her.
