OWEN A. JOHNSON Owen A. Johnson, 84, of DeKalb, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at DeKalb County Rehab Nursing Center in DeKalb, where he had resided for 14 years. His family attributes his long life to the excellent care he received there. Born March 13, 1920, in Milan Township, he was the son of Stanley and Elsie (Mosher) Johnson.

He married Irene Hart on Feb. 20, 1943, in Lee. Owen attended the oneroom schoolhouse known as Toad Hollow along with his many childhood family and friends. He attended high school in Lee and graduated from High School in 1938. He farmed on several area farms until 1958.

The family moved to DeKalb and Owen then went to work at Baker's Feed in Leland. He later operated the Farm Equipment Store in Shabbona. While he was there, he suffered a debilitating stroke at the age of 51. After recovering, he sold grain elevators for his brother Joe at Farmers Sales Service in Kirkland. The most enjoyable hours of his life were spent having coffee at area coffee shops and arguing politics with all who would listen.

Being an avid Democrat in DeKalb County gave him lots of takers for a good discussion. In 1982, Irene passed away. In 1989 while attending the Shabbona High School alumni celebration, Owen renewed his high school friendship with lla Merriman Gleason. They married later that year; lla preceded him in death in 1991. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the DeKalb County Democratic Party.

He served the DeKalb County Democrats as a precinct committeeman and in 1958 as a candidate for DeKalb County Clerk. He is survived by five children, Jackie (Don Remington) Johnson of Woodstock, J. Thomas (Barbara Chasnoff) Johnson of Park Ridge, Susan (Steven Johnson of DeKalb, Anita (Richard) Feltes of Lisle and. Timothy (Gina) Johnson of Naperville; 13 grandchildren, Katherine (Patrick) Gannon, Steven (Jeanette) Johnson and Kristin (Michael) Anderson, all of DeKalb, Nadine Remington of Chicago, DeeDee Remington of THE MARKET IN: REVIEW JONES STOCKS OF 10202.65 Dow Jones Industrial Average Tuesday, June 1, 2004 10,750 10,250 9,750 9,250 MAR APR MAY JUN Record High Daily Chg Daily Daily High Daily Low 11,722.98 10214.57 10134.86 Jan. 14, 2000 STOCK MARKET 52-Week High Low Name 10,753.63 8,540.59 Dow Industrials 3,090.07 2,352.87 Dow Transportation 283.52 229.46 Dow Utilities 6,798.12 5.253.26 NYSE Composite, 1,278.81 922.15 Amex Market Value 2,153.83 1,504.22 Nasdaq Composite 1,163.23 927:33 500 618.46 452.91 MidCap 606.42 417.82 Russell 2000 11,371.14 8,867.97 Wilshire 5000 STOCK EXCHANGE HIGHLIGHTS NYSE AMEX 6,487.25 1,203.10 GAINERS ($2 OR MORE) GAINERS ($2 OR MORE) Name Last Chg Name Last Chg LabrRdy 13.85 9.88 CascdeCp 27.45 RoweCos 5.15 Citizinc 7.49 Congolm 2.50 Synnex n.
