Edward Green of the inter-coastal freighter Katriha Luckenbach reported to the Navy branch hydrographic office here that his ship encountered a surprise hurricane off the Revilla Gigedo Islands, near the mouth of the Gulf of California.

The ship was struck by a northeast gale completely without warning in pleasant weather and with the barometer at 29.78 inches, Captain Green said. The vessel was forced fo heave to as the wind quickly increased to full hurricane force, accompanied by torrential rain and mountainous seas that swept over her decks and hatches. One of the bandits entered the White Log Tavern at 519 16th Street at midnight and ordered a sandwich and coffee from Basil Randall, manager. While Randall was in the rear room, the man punched the cash register and scooped $1.50. Randall grabbed a revolver, vaulted the counter and gave chase. He fired one shot at the fleeing bandit.
