The holidays are upon us. There are many messages out there asking you to think about the environment "Go Green! and "To remember the reason for the season." We at the Arts Alliance of Portage County ask you to stop for a moment and consider how arts and culture impacts your personal holiday experience, as well as that of your family and community. We believe arts and culture positively influences the heart and health of individuals and the community. Through the festive spirit of music, theater, dance, visual arts, poetry and culinary delights, we express our gratitude and love for others with our creativity. Expressing ourselves and sharing our creations is a human experience that reaches beyond age, race, religion, sexual orientation or economic status.

Do you bake, cook and entertain? Do you sew, knit or craft? Do you sing or play an instrument? Do you share the stories of the season by reading or watching a special television program? Do you have family traditions of watching "A Christmas Carol," attending "The Nutcracker," the symphony, the chorale or a child's BM0 Harris Bank N.A. Member WI-S001S8S1GG holiday concert? All of these art and culture activities connect us to one another and make the season special. Personal spending is at a high during the holidays. Please consider the economic impact of your choices this season. Where your dollars go have a great nourishing impact, not only on making memories but by putting food on the table.

Meeting for coffee, dining out, attending a concert, dance performance or movie, buying gifts at locally owned businesses and galleries, buying your ingredients for holiday cooking from local sources directly impacts the economic well-being of individuals and our community. We hope you realize the impact of arts and culture during the holidays is deep and wide. May your days be merry and shine brightly. Happy holidays from all of us at Arts Alliance of Portage County!
