Passenger department headquarters for all of the lines of the Chicago, Rock Island Pacific railway west of the Missouri river will be established in Kansas City Aug. 1. Two districts, St. Louis and To-peka, are being combined to bring all of the passenger business west of the Missouri under one head, and Kansas City has been chosen as headquarters because it Is deemed the logical point from which to reach all of the vast territory involved in the new order. J.

A. Stewart, general passenger agent at Topeka and a former Des Moines man, has been put in charge of a new district which has been extended to include territory formerly handled by the office of George H. Lee, general passenger agent at St. Louis. Mr.

Lee has resigned to accept service with another line, and, combining his territory with that of the Topeka district, with J. A. Stewart in charge as general passenger agent, the Chicago, Rock Island Pacific Railway company's executives decided that Kansas City was the logical headquarters for the office. The St. Louis territory will be in the Kansas City district.

Location of the headquarters there Is taken at Kansas City as an indication that the Rock Island believes Kansas City is the logical center of its western lines, and that there Is a possibility that other general offices may follow the general passenger agent's office here. The general freight agent's office already is located in Kansas City.
