Grand View DMACC THE PLAYBOY CHANNEL For Adults REUTERS Hour News Financial Information DISNEY CHANNEL GD WTBS Atlanta Hour Independent The Sioux City pipeline WHO-TV has tapped its "Sioux City pipeline" once again and hired Dave Nixon Jr. of KTIV-TV as a reporter. Wait a minute. Didn't Dave Nixon work as an anchor for WHO a few years ago? Ah, that was Dave Nixon who now anchors the news for ETTV.

The Nixon boys have been working together for about three years at KTTV, ever since Dave Sr. left WHO in 1980. Father and son have done nicely, helping KTIV's news cut deeply into the once giant ratings lead held by KCAU-TV. Dave Jr. has been a weekend anchor and reporter at KTTV which means northwest Iowans have been able to watch a Dave Nixon anchor the news there seven nights a week.

Dave a fixture in Siouxland news for a long time, helped to build KCAU's giant news ratings in the 1970s before being lured to WHO. About 18 months later, he was back in Sioux City only this time across town at KTTV. Dave Sr. returned shortly after Dave Jr. was hired as a weatherman at KTTV.

Dave Jr. is scheduled to start at WHO on June 16. Other WHO staffers who arrived via the Sioux City pipeline include reporter Mike Cummings and photographer John Windschitl both from KTTV. Communications gap A bit of a communications problem between the sales department and the promotion department at WQAD-TV in Moline last week made for an embarrassing news release concerning the approaching Miss Iowa Pageant Active 8 Productions, an arm of WQAD, is producing the Miss Iowa Pageant live Saturday at 8 p.m. from the Galvin Fine Arts Center at St Ambrose College in Davenport.

It's also feeding the show to four other stations serving Iowa. But a news release apparently based on information from the sales staff wrongly named three stations in the network (KCAU in Sioux City, KAAL in Austin, and KCRG in Cedar Rapids), said the event was being held at Palmer College and said the host was Linda Frogley (that should be Rhonda Frogley), Miss Iowa 1976. A flurry of calls to newspapers and TV stations across the state was needed to correct the situation. The latest word we have is that the Miss Iowa Pageant will be shown live Saturday, 8-10 p.m., from St Ambrose College, hosted by Rhonda Frogley and seen on WQAD, KCCI in Des Moines, KGAN in Cedar Rapids, KMEG in Sioux City and KMTV in Omaha. Forum broadcast tape-delayed The utility rates and regulation forum scheduled at Drake University on July 21 will be televised on a same-night tape-delayed basis by WOI-TV, according to Betty Lou Varnum, public affairs director at WOL The forum is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

at Drake's Hall of Performing Arts. WOI's coverage will begin at 10:30 p.m. and continue until the panel discussion ends. The forum is being organized by the Drake College of Business Administration and participants will include representatives of Iowa utility companies, the Iowa Commerce Commission, consumer groups, legislators and the media. Sad news for NPR The bad news continues to flow from National Public Radio.

The latest report says NPR's budget has been slashed from $26.6 million to 17.6 million for fiscal 1984 and 84 employees have been fired. Taking the brunt of the cuts has been NPR's performing arts division, whose budget was cut by 79 percent NPR's two popular news programs, "AD Things Considered" and "Morning Edition," were only nicked. The staff was cut by 17 employees, but the budget was trimmed only 15 percent Those two shows, which are credited with putting NPR on the map, will survive in their current time periods. Call the coach It seems that every TV station has a "talent coach" these days, and WOI's was in Ames recently to work with a number of the on-air staff. Merylyn Lancaster spent two full days at WOI, helping anchors Jerilyn Donovan, Rick Roberts and weekend anchor Mark Mills with wardrobe, posture, makeup and delivery.

Also reportedly taking part in the refresher course were meteorologists Larry Cos grove and Michael July, sports staffers Mark Matthew and Ttave Stewart and reporter Joann Merrigan. Called "The Coach" around the station, Lancaster was hired by general manager Keith Ketcham, who insists that she is only a "talent coach" not a news consultant. "She's not qualified" to be a news consultant says Ketcham. Just about every TV station uses talent coaches in one form or another and apparently aren't afraid to shell out sizable sums to have their news staffs coached. Lancaster's reported paycheck from WOI is in the neighborhood of $1,000 a day.

Everybody smile. Scribbles and scraps Listening to Del Monaco read the news on KIOA apparently is becoming a religious experience. Last Wednesday morning, Monaco reported the fact that Mayor Pete Crivaro will be running for re-election, ending the story with a hearty "Amen." Unfortunately, Monaco's ad lib was part of a newscast not his morning mischief with Die Youngs. Said KIOA news director Jim Vogelaar That's something that doesn't belong in the newscast I can guarantee it won't happen again." Timothy Berry of WOI's public affairs staff will have another of his plays presented on that station. "Little Egypt" will be presented Saturday at p.m.

According to Berry, the play is a comedy, "but it's not about a stripper." Floppy celebrates his 26th birthday Saturday with a party at Nollen Plaza starting at 10:30 ajn. The party will be televised live on WHO. Let's see, 26 human years is 182 dog years. But Floppy will not be ready to retire until be can answer the question that has dogged his career for years and years: What's the biggest pen in the world? WHO also will air a one-hour live special from the Two Rivers Festival on June 18 at 7 p.m., which will feature activities at the Botanical Center and Nollen Plaza. Dont expect Frank Reynolds back as Washington, D.C., anchor for ABCs "World News Tonight" before mid-July.

He still is recovering from viral hepatitis. MGM-United Artists is trying to save "Fame which has been canceled by NBC for next season. The studio is trying to put together a syndication deal for 24 new shows to sell to independent and network-affiliated stations in this country, and a number of foreign broadcasters. "Fame" is very popular overseas. NBC daytime shows "Fantasy" and "Search for Tomorrow" are in danger of getting the ax due to sagging ratings.

Possible replacements include a soap based on the novel "Scruples" and a women's magazine show titled "Personal and Confidential" CBS has ordered eight episodes of "Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer" for next season. Stacy Reach will play the tough-guy private eye ABC has decided to film three extra episodes of "Dynasty" for next season (27 in all) so it can run fresh shows during the next Mart ratine period. 6 Dave Rhein WGN Chicago Hour Independent 2 (5)3 CNN Hour News Headlines USA NETWORK Variety CD" MTV Hour Video Music THE NASHVILLE CHANNEL 127 Country Music LOCAL SCHOOL GOVERNMENT NEWS NICKELODEONARTS YouthCultural CABLE HEALTH NETWORK Guide rafere only to Moints cOH vMn STCFE Editor: Dave Rhein Logs Desk: Carol Campbell (chief).
