LETTERS AIRED PA Quit carping The article headlined, "CARP Killed: Two Rivers Fest to Be Grander," couldn't have been further from the truth. The fact of the matter is that both the CARP (Court Avenue River Party) Festival and the Two Rivers Festival will be combined and a new festival will be created to take their places. The name of the new festival has yet to be determined. The new festival will incorporate the best elements of CARP and Two Rivers. Some of the activities planned are the Dam to Dam run, race, fireworks display and a bridge dance.

The decision to change the events was purely financial. As a longtime volunteer for downtown events, I know first-hand that large corporate sponsors are hard to come by. Corporate backing is often a necessity when organizing such events, and the painful truth is that the dollars weren't there to warrant two large downtown festivals. We hope (the committee and I) that the new festival will attract an even wider cross section of the general public than in past years. Thomas M.

Mentzer, 1811 78th St. Local talent After reading the article on the Roze Band and the other local bands not receiving any air time from the local radio stations, from the April 6 Datebook, I believe and feel that the radio stations are discriminating against and denying our Iowa talent. So come on, give 'em a break and wake up! These bands play their hearts and souls out for their audiences. Their sweat is genuine. They make hundreds and thousands of people happy.

Give these bands the opportunity they deserve. I could be wrong, but isn't Iowa a land of opportunity? Get with it, KGGO, and the rest of you! These bands are products of Iowa. We should all feel and be proud we have them. So get them on the air and give them a chance! Make those ol' air waves sing and try it you might like it. Thousands of listeners can't be wrong! Swalwell, 104 E.

Watson, Baxter. Bad scene In response to April 6 Datebook dio versus local music: Patrick Beach's article on local ra- Yes, I'm afraid this Des Moines radio scene is unbearably bad, as in horrible. Being born and raised in Des Moines, leaving for 15 years, then relocating back from former Austin, Texas, digs, I sorely miss my airwaves choices from a different capital city. We are being musically deprived, subjected to the anemic, clone-like radio stations. Every single one guilty of little musical knowledge and no imagination when it comes to selecting music for air play or.

local music events. There is absolutely no true rapport between our radio stations and the local, or even the regional, music scene (Kansas City, Chicago). nameless because, believe me, they are. No trailblazers here, and not one star in radio whom we musically inclined can respect. Can this be true? In our lovely capital city? Yes, folks.
