SURPRISE DINNER ENJOYED Mrs. Ralph Campbell of South Main Street was pleasantly surprised yesterday afternoon at her home, when relatives and friends honored her with a birthday dinner. The honored guest received many lovely gifts and flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson of Elm Street have moved to their new home west of the city. Baked Bean Favorites for Lent THIS IS A TIMELY moment, with Lent now upon us, to consider some new meatless main dishes.

Of course, we can serve fish frequently but not every day. And vegetable plates begin to pall after so long a time. Soon now, the men folk will begin to clamor for good solid food, so it's up to us to cast about for some hot and hearty dishes for dinners without meat. The answer to this problem is savory OvenBaked Beans prepared, vegetarian style, without meat. In these beans, will find the valuable proteins and minerals that make them a you worthy substitute for meat.

And besides, it is easy to prepare OvenBaked Beans in such a variety of delightful new ways that they can be used in place the meat course with complete satisfaction to the whole family. Any of these grand dishes will slip into your menus with such ease, the old favorites will scarcely be missed: Bean and Corn Casserole Place 1 large can Oven-Baked Beans, Vegetarian Style, in casserole. Arrange 8 small peeled onions in two rows, pressing them down half way into the Beans. Sprinkle onions with teaspoon salt, then cover with cup Tomato Ketchup. Pour 1-No.

2 can whole kernel corn, from which the liquid has been well drained, over the Beans and onions. Cover and bake in 8 moderate oven for hours. About 20 minutes before taking from the oven, remove lid and top casserole with cup buttered bread crumbs and allow the crumbs to brown. Baked Bean Rabbit on ToastMelt 3 tablespoons butter in saucepan, add 4 tablespoons flour and blend well. Add 2 cups milk, teaspoon salt and a dash of pepper and stir until thickened.

Add 1 medium can Oven-Baked Beans, Vegetarian Style, and cook until the Beans are thoroughly heated, then add 1 cup grated American cheese and allow the cheese to melt slowly. This makes a delicious, creamy, flavorful rabbit. Serve on slices or cubes of toast. Baked Beans in Tomato CupsCut off slices from tops of 6 large ripe tomatoes and scoop out centers. Dust inside with salt and sugar and spread lightly with Prepared Brown Mustard.

Fill with Oven-Baked Beans, Vegetarian Style (1 medium can will be needed) and sprinkle tops with cup grated cheese. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in moderate oven Baked Bean Casserole (serves 4)-Cook 2 small finely chopped onions and 2 finely chopped green in 2 tablespoons butter peppers until they are tender and golden brown in color. Add 1 large can Oven-Baked Beans, Vegetarian Style, and mix thoroughly. Cook 20 minutes. Mix cup flour and cup cold water 1 to a smooth paste. Stir into meat and sauce, adding teaspoon salt. Almost cover with water and cook slowly for 45 minutes with lid on. Heat 1 medium can Cooked Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce and serve meat on platter surrounded with Spaghetti.

Beef Stuffed with SpaghettiTrim 1 large slice round steak, thick, rubbing flour well into both sides. Spread one half of steak with Cooked Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce (1 medium can), and sprinkle with 1. green pepper, minced. Fold other half of meat over and sew edges together or fasten together, with toothpicks. Brown meat in hot fat in skillet.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper and pour 1 cup of hot water in skillet. Cover and bake in a moderate oven or cook on top of stove, basting occasionally, until tender. Meat and Spaghetti Loaf (serves 8)-Mix lb. fresh pork, 1 lb. smoked ham and lb.

Mrs. Willard Kelley of Vine Street. Public Bunco Party Six tables of bunco were played last evening at a publie bunco party sponsored by the members of the Wabash Camp, 1517, Royal Neighbore of America, at the hall on Elm Street. High prize was awarded to Mrs. Robert Guinn; bunco, Mrs.

Cecil Anstead: low, Mrs. Edmund Owens, and travel, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson. There will be another bunco party next Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the hall. Westminster Guild Meets The Westminster Guild of Hill Crest met last evening at Hill Crest.

Following the regular business meeting games were played with prizes going to Mrs. R. M. Stwalley and Miss Cynthia Contri. The next meeting will be held in two weeks at Hill Crest.

ground beef, lb. ground pork, cup Rice Flakes, 2 teaspoons salt, teaspoon Red Pepper Sauce, teaspoon WorI cestershire Sauce, cup thin cream or top milk and 1 small onion, chopped. Shape into balls, dip in four and cook to a rich brown in 3 tablespoons Pure Olive Oil. Add 1 small can Cream of Tomato Soup and another small onion finely chopped and cook slowly until meat is tender, about hour. Meanwhile heat 2 medium cans Cooked Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce in hot water for 20 minutes.

Open and pile in center of hot platter. Arrange balls around edge, pouring sauce over Spaghetti. Sprinkle with cup grated cheese (preferably Parmesan). NOTE: After meat balls are browned, they may be placed in bottom of baking dish, covered with Spaghetti, cheese and Soup, and baked until done.
