He was so impatient the first six games of this season that he only won three of them. Owens loses a few games every four or five years or so, but not usually the ones he wants to win.

His team blew one to U. S. C. last year when it let Hal Bcdsole get clear in the open to catch a pass in the first quarter. I guess the game plan didn't call for Bcdsole to be still on his feet that late in the game.

They figured the only way they'd be able to cover Bcdsole after the kit koff would be in the infirmary. The worst injuries they fear, year in and year out, are bones in the throat. Not theirs, the other guys! After every play, the other team always takes roll call.

On goal line stands, the Washington front line needs toothpicks after every play. They've got this one lineman named Redman who, I think, eats bear meat on the hoof. The way Washington plays the game, the Catholic boys can't even scrimmage on Fridays. I fully expect U. S.

C. to take a head count and if they come up one short, the captain will go over, tap Redman on the chest and say, "0. wise guy, we know you got Willie Brown in there. Now, cough him up!" I don't know who'll win the game, or, as a matter of fact, who'll survive it. Washington wears those purple uniforms to match the eyes of their opponents by the third play.

But U. S. C. doesn't wear those blood-colored uniforms for nothing, either. Red Cross on Alert EVEN HAD THIS DREAM where I called U.

S. C.s coach, 1 John McKay: "Are you all set for these guys, John?" "Oh, yes," answered John. "The Red Cross has been alerted. We've been studying Air Force survival films. Also pictures of pedestrians who survived the crosswalk at Hollywood and Vine.

And we've been doing wind sprints and calisthenics." "The backfield?" "The backfield? Lord.no! The stretcher crew." "Oh, come now, John. These guys aren't tough!" "They aren't, eh? Haven't you ever noticed how the assistant coaches at Washington are all armed at practices? And that the ones who go in and get the football carry whips and chairs? "Then, you expect to be annihilated?" "I didn't say that. You still got to catch your food before you can cat it. Also, you can't eat the football." (fi 1W3 Loj Anqelpj Time! Co. YOU BE THE Head Iquarter Dowiing surge and won its first game cf the season, 14-13, Friday night at Lincoln. The Polar Bears, who finished with a 1-7 mark, scored with less than five minutes gone in the first quarter.

Dowiing sophomore quarterback Rich O'Connor faded back to pass from his 12-yard line, the ball was knocked loose by North's Mike Hooper and Mike Lund fell on the ball in the end zone for the Polar Bears' first marker. 54-Yard Run Dowiing, finishing at 2-7, struck back in the second quarter as Jimmy Robb raced 54 yards for a touchdown. Mike Waldron's extra point attempt was blocked by Bruce Fehn. Clint Herlein's blocked punt early in the second quarter set up North's second touchdown. The Bears took over on their 45.

On the next play fullback Steve Lombardo rambled 54 yards to the one-yard line. The Maroons' defense pushed North back to the three. But on fourth down, halfback Gary Fall raced for the touchdown. In the fourth quarter Dowiing scored with less than 3 minutes gone. John Leonardo capped a 45-yard drive with an eight-yard scoring burst.

Midway through the final period Dowiing moved from its 42 to the North six-yard line. The Bears stopped the Maroons as Hooper, Tim Shields and Steve Mullins turned in the key plays. Stops Threat North stopped another threat with 2:17 remaining after a pass interference call moved the ball to North's 40-yard line. Two passes failed, then Hooper broke through again to dump O'Connor for a two-yard loss. A fourth down pass completion to John Allen wasn't enough for a first down.

The Register's No. 2 ranked team needs a victory to win the title outright, but even a loss will give the Scarlet a title share with Lincoln. The only doubtful starter is Rider halfback Tom Gruening. East holds a 25-12-3 edge in the series with Roosevelt, including a 20-7 loss to the Riders last season. The Scarlet have scored 147 points in seven games to Roosevelt's 95 in six games. Roosevelt (3-3) has won its last two games.
