THE CORSICANA DAILY'SUN WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1932. BERN SUICIDE IS RE-ECHOED AS WILL FILED FOR PROBATE ATTEMPT IS MADE FIND RELATIVE MISS MILLETTE; WIDOW GETS ALL PROPERTY LOS ANGELES, Oct. Legal echoes of the suicide of Paul Bern, film eexcutive, were heard today in Los Angeles and Sacramento where an attorney, A. Sheets, was named to represent the late executive's widow, Jean Harlow, screen actress, in her fight against possible to Bern's estate. Harlow's attorneys in Los Angeles said they would offei- for probate today the will In which Bern's entire estate was left-, to the platinum blonde ae.

No mention was made In the will of Dorothy Mlllette, Bern's former sweetheart, who leaped from a Sacramento river boat ended her life a few days after Bern died. Sheets said he was particularly interested in success of Herman Koch, Sacramento county public adminlstra- tor, to find relatives of Miss Mll- lette. "Koch is attempting to locate Miss Millette's relatives and to prove she was married legally to Bern.

Sheets said the attempt to establish a claim for the Millette heirs was estate is valued at "more than Nothing was willed to Bern's brother, Henry, New Rochelle, N. business man, and his two sisters, Selda Summers and Mrs. Frederike Marcus of Beverlv Hills. Texas Politics (Continued from Page 1) impeached and removed from office in 1917. Also in the field was the league of anti-Ferguson democrats, organized by the group of ultra- drys which in 1928 was active in swinging Texas into the column for Herbert Hoover.

A third voice was raised last night when George W. Armstrong of Fort Worth, independent candidate for governor, declared In a statement at Dallas that Thomas J3. Love of Dallas, Cato Sells of Fort Worth and Alvin S. Moody of Houston, dry Democratic leaders, had entered into a "conspiracy" R. B.

Creager of Brownsville, Republican national committeeman, to throw their dry Democratic votes to Bullington. Bullington, in his address at Huntsville, denounced Ferguson in Bitter words, calling out: "No man can vote for James E. Ferguson, through his without violating the constitution. He because the constitution prohibits an impeached official from holding office again." Ferguson announced Monday he would renew the campaign for his with an address next Saturday night at San Antonio, making Confesses Irom Fago on relieving the couple of money or valuables. Pickett said that when Arledge heard footsteps he started the motor of his automobile, 'I stepped up to the front door and threw my flashlight in his face," Pickett stated.

'Hold I said. The boy pushed my flashlight away and attempted to drive away. I had the pistol cocked in my hand and I thought would hit him over the head. As I swung it he hit at me again, and struck the hand the gun was in. It went was an I didn't mean to shoot him." Parollcd July, 1931.

Pickett had been paroled from the penitentiary on July 15, 1931, He had been convicted on two burglary charges. Gov. R. S. Sterling said he first furloughed the convict and then parolled him on application of a concern that had previously employed Pickett as a stone setter.

Pickett was sentenced to the penitentiary from Crosby county for five years on January 1, 1927, and later removed from the penitentiary on a bench warrant, taken to Wise county on a bench warrant. He was assessed a 20- year sentence there on Jan. 13, 1928. Pickett told his story of the Arledge slaying to five police officers and other witnesses. It was put in writing and signed by him.

He was taken to San Antonio for further investigation in connection with offenses he is charged with committing there. Retains Dallas Attorney. Pickett decided to make his statement after A. S. Baskett, Dallas attorney, retained by the accused, had conferred with Henry Brooks, Travis county district attorney.

Brooks said the Travis county grand jury would likely consider the case 'immediately. Questioning of the man in San Antonio in connection with the shooting of Hazel Dillehay, while burglarizing the Dillehay residence, gave police clues that led to solution of the Arledge slaying. Pickett also was connected with an attempted criminal attack on a woman in San Antonio a night or two prior to the stuaent murder. Tho ex-convict said he came to Austin in an effort to obtain employment as a stone setter on the University of Texas campus where an extensive building program is in progress. perhaps ten speeches before the November 8 election.

State headquarters In Dallas for the national Democratic ticket thus far has remained largely aloof from the intra-party and inter- party battle over th? governorship, comforted by the fact that many Democratic leaders opposing Ferguson were in the anomalous position of supporting Franklin D. Roosevelt and John N. Garner, presidential and vice-presidential nominees. World's Adviser Newspaper advertising Is the world's to eat, what to drink, what to wear and how to sleep. Insull Still Fears Kidnaping ATHENS, Greece, Oct. Friends of Samuel Insull encountered difficulty today in convincing him there was no danger of his being kidnaped by private detectives or others unless he should venture into a deserted or mountainous part of the country where the Greek police would not be able to protect him. The former utilities magnate said he had small faith In an official denial from Chicago of his statement that American detectives were reported seeking to kidnap him. "Thev could not do otherwise than deny the report," he said. Persons who have attempted to allay his apprehension said he has the Lindbergh baby kidnaping case in mind and cannot shake off his fears.

Rice Institute Prepares Trickery For Longhorn Team HOUSTON, Oct. Rice Institute eleven, which has displayed only the most conventional of football so far this season, is being prepared td shake out a handful of tricky plays against the Texas university Longhorns here Saturday, if it becomes necessary. Coach Jack Meagher is working the squad on a series of passes, and fake runs which may be hard to stop. Yesterday's practice, featuring a stiff work out with signal drills, covered almost the entire football book, and today's will be along the same line.

There may be a shakup, incidentally, in the Rice line, with Lou Hassell starting at left tackle and Ox Hinman at right end. The purpose would be to add weight.
