tl.f rla, Ohio. WfcJftMdi? fib. 5, JIMMIE HOLER IN HOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD One afternoon. Shortly after Grace Moore's first arrival in Hollywood, two other Hollywood writers and I were chatting with a studio publicist who, during the course of the Cunve.rsation. made the challenging remark that Miss Moore was "absolutely Irresistible" to me.

We took up the gauntlet by deciding, then and thereto do a magazine article in three sections nndrr Ihe overall litle: "Three Men Look; At Grace Moore." We went to her house determined to be charmed by the diva's smiles. We went then: for luncheon it Was 7.30 in the evening before we left. The resultant story was a complete fizzle, for the essential between its three completely lack- Ing. Each of us wrote an all-out rave; each of us was as thoroughly charmed as if we had been hypnotized. Grace Moore wasn't beautiful, and.

frankly, I've heard better volcos. But I've never known anyone so vibrant with LIFE. During the succeeding years. I came to know her unusually well, and always there was that quality of vibrancy. Anyone meeting her was inspired by her peculiar, personal magnetism.

She WHS like a high tendon wire, like a dynamo. It's hard to realize that anyone who lived so intensely fan be dead. On the wall of my office hangs a framed photograph of her, mailed to me from Switzerland some ten vears ago. It shows her perched on the summit of a high peak, a triumphant smile on her lips. Beneath the picture, in her flow-ing hand, is written: "As usual, I'm hitting the high spots." I like that photograph.

Better than nny biography that ever can be written, it expresses her personality and her philosophy. It's a photograph that I'd like to show to every youngster who dreams of being a great star.
